I like the hole mostly because I'm so used to it, but I can use thumbstuds or flippers easily, too.

fixed blade... B/C there is ZERO percent chance of failure... I mean really think... a flipper adds soooooo many variables and any 1 of them could fail.. (pivot, lock, ect..ect..) Only thing that can happen with a fixed blade is the blade totally snaps because you tried prying with it..... Take it easy..

Thumbstuds all the way. Flipper in second place:). I think I'd even prefer a nailnick over that uncomfortable ugly thumbhole...

I like the thumb stud best, but they have to be big enough for your thumb to hit them. I like a good thumb hold next, such as those done by Spyderco with the Para2. Smaller thumb holes, or thumb holes with chamfered edges such as my Benchmade AFCK, are not as good. The thing I like about thumb studs is that they don't weaken the blade and they allow a relatively small knife. My Spyderco knives with the large thumb hole are significantly larger.

Since I mostly carry traditionals anymore,I prefer nail nicks. It being followed by the Spyderco thumb hole.-Jim

AXIS lock.

But I don't mind flipper, hole, or stud. Or a wave. In fact I wish more knives had the wave as I don't have any models with it except a mini grip that I modified. I don't always need a fast opening knife but sometimes it's nice to have.

I voted spydie hole but I can do any as long as its manual and unassisted.

Spydie hole, because it is easy to operate, very comfortable, won't unscrew, and most importantly, won't get in the way of sharpening.

IMHO,
Connor

Hole, but I could probably get used to a tip up flipper pretty easily.

The knife I have in my pocket at the moment (BM 943) has a thumb stud, so go figure...

Flipper for me. Fast open and provides a built in guard. Second choice would be spydie hole. ZT560 is my favorite flipper at the moment

I put other because there was no "I don't really care as long as I like the knife as a whole" option. ;)

The sound a flipper or an automatic makes is one of the few sounds a bad guy hears and then makes him think twice. None of them will work if you don't carry them at all times.

I don't think it makes that much of a difference as long as the particular knife works for you, but I think I will go with the spydie hole as it doesn't chew up my pocket the way thumb studs do.

I like the spydie holes. They work well, and are easy to manipulate. Next for me would be thumb studs. I have several Benchmades that have the thumb studs. Last would be flippers. I have but one left. And, I may trade that one off. It stays in my safe for now.

Spydie Hole. When you want to grind that super thin bevel and don't like removing the thumbstud whenever you sharpen/strop, the Spydie hole is best. Plus, it's just simple and effective.

I guess a well placed thumbstud (i.e. MT Socom Elite or Strider SMF) also work...but I still like the Spydie hole.
