stupid blade markings

vanadium, if you'd only chosen ONE different knife for your examples, everybody here calling you a troll would have been in total agreement with you. ;)

not really... twin blades logo is still cool. now, if it had been dark ops - yes. then I would agree with you.

the knife itself is a (hog)fshle with either tiger hide or pumpkin magnum scales, but I think the knife in the logo itself is an ergo battle mistress, wich was later replaced with a fusion battle mistress... i will check past photo's to verify.

I don't like wearing clothing with brand names all over it, especially when such marks increase the price of the item. With knives, the one that gets me is:

Small letters:
Made in China

Large letters:
National Headquarters in USA

Personally, I like a makers mark that is fairly small and inconspicuous so as not to mess up the look and flow of a knife, but a maker can put whatever marking he wants on the knife. If you don't like don't buy it; pretty easy huh?

I rescind my statement regardin the logo being a battle mistress. it is indeed a steel heart. sigh... their two flagship models then

It's always nice when the qualities of a knife are self-evident. Why do some knifemakers use the surface of the blade like a billboard? A few thoughts...

1. Etching the word "stiletto" on the blade doesn't make it a stiletto, it makes it look like a toy.

2. Etching the word "quality" on the blade is like walking around telling people, "I'm really smart."

3. Etching a blade with a picture of itself is like wearing a T-shirt with your face on it.

What is the purpose of this post? Because if it's for hurting my feelings, then it's successful. I hope you're proud of yourself.

yay loveless!

Wasn't trying to start a flamewar, or cause offense, just start a conversation. Maybe trashing Busse wasn't the right way to start? I just had a feeling others might agree with me, that these types of blade etchings (or perhaps others) devalue the knife visually.

Thanks to the people offering their own ideas.

Too bad some others can't disagree without embarrassing themselves...

you did start some conversation. but most disagreed. its still a discussion.

trash busse all you want, but with any company that has a large following, expect some to stand up for what they like.

and had the busse you pictured actually had a logo with the SAME knife, you might have a legitimate argument. it does not, so you don't.

i don't think anyone embarassed themselves.

you should have posted this in whine and cheese.

To add another company with markings that ruin a knife. i have never understood why Extrema Ratio feel the need to put the RC hardnes and a multitude of other words in some cases all over the knife  They make good knives and i have a few of them but the markings have always put me off buying more.
(the Busse logo is fine in my view and a good one at that so i dont see the OP point there ? maybe he is under an arch )

aha, from wikipedia:

"The image of the hand comes from the arms of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, and represents the relics of John the Baptist, three of whose finger-bones were supposedly brought back from Alexandria by Saint Tecla in the 6th century. The crown comes from the arms of Savoy."

there ya go. a weird funky lookin image to a guy with bad, baaaad american highschool education turns out to be an image with a great deal of history.

To be honest, I do not keep any of my blades mint. All of them are users and thus all eventually loose their coatings and markings. Especially with an occasional touch up with some scoth-brite. Busse also often puts out "sterile" versions if the logos bother you. Just my take. :)

SOGMT2.jpg

I don't know anything about sog, but I've never really liked any of their model designs. the new cut out handles though... theres advertisement, and then theres just plain bad taste. for me, these fall into the later. no amount of wear and tear will get rid of a white blue and black color combo handle cut out :D

oooh dark ops. whipping boy of the knife world. the dead horse that keeps twitching, so you gotta keep beating on it to make sure its dead.

apperently the cobalt, tungsten, and vanadium content of the stainless steel they use is worth noting so much that they printed it on the blade. then put ctv2 just in case you fogot. just in case you forgot while you were reading it...

That is because most of their knives are for the general market. There actual issued knife (issued to some italian ranger type unit) is the Col Moschin and it has no words at all anywhere, only a very small regiment insignatia on each side. Pretty good knife actually.
