stupid blade markings

yay loveless!

Now that is one fine makers mark! :D

Wasn't trying to start a flamewar, or cause offense, just start a conversation. Maybe trashing Busse wasn't the right way to start? I just had a feeling others might agree with me, that these types of blade etchings (or perhaps others) devalue the knife visually.

Thanks to the people offering their own ideas.

Too bad some others can't disagree without embarrassing themselves...

As far as markings are concerned, I can take them or leave them. Depending on the blade I may like them or not. It is hard to take one particular model and say it doesn't look right and then project that on an entire manufacturer's line. I happen to like the Busse logo most of the time, but the nice thing with Jerry is, that if you don't want it marked, you just have to request a sterile blade. He has made plenty of blades that are sterile and sometimes it just doesn't look right for some reason. I agree that the covering of a blade with some etchings doesn't do anything for me, like that you find on so many commemorative blades. As for the "Quality" name, is that the name of the company or is it just them trying to convey quality? If it is their trade name, then it does make more sense than if they seem to be trying to convince the buying public that their products are quality.

Trashing anyone is no way to start, but picking Busse was a bad idea. We are a rabid and zealous bunch. That video clips is funny, there are folks who do that sort of crap out in the public park the wife and I walk in some times. You try not to stare, but it is hard not to chuckle when you see them.

vanadium, if you'd only chosen ONE different knife for your examples, everybody here calling you a troll would have been in total agreement with you. ;)

Still, I've never seen that kind of rabid response OVER A BLADE MARKING.

The OP's post is pretty funny. I've thought the same thing myself more than once.

Of course, I didn't just come out and SAY it, because I figured the response would be somewhat similar to this. But wow...

i'll take it! (#3)!!!! e-mail incoming!

1kimo gets my vote for funniest response.

It's always nice when the qualities of a knife are self-evident. Why do some knifemakers use the surface of the blade like a billboard? A few thoughts...

1. Etching the word "stiletto" on the blade doesn't make it a stiletto, it makes it look like a toy.

2. Etching the word "quality" on the blade is like walking around telling people, "I'm really smart."

3. Etching a blade with a picture of itself is like wearing a T-shirt with your face on it.

I agree with the original post all the way.

VANADIUM, to you I say,
STUPIDITY IS NOT A CRIME,
YOU ARE FREE TO GO.

.
What did I just step in? Ugh, troll poop!

A few of the forum members seem to have forgotten that personal attacks are not condoned here on the forums.

I was once temporarily banned because I made a personal attack on a fellow forum member.
And, IMO, calling a forum member "stupid" and such just because you disagree with his opinion definitely falls in the category of personal attacks.

As someone who's been threatened with banning several times over calling out dumb ideas, oddly by non admins, and over third parties, I can say many forum members cannot make such a distinction.

I take it this is the "ONE" you speak of:D

I disagree! I don't think anyone would agree with him as long as the logo does not overwhelm the Blade. Randall, D'Holder,etc..., and most other knive's I have use a logo. I do hate the large Logo,s that cover the whole blade.

Busse people did'nt show up just to flame. We are very loyal to our knive's for many reasons... mostly performance. Anyone that has owned and used one will understand our loyalty

I'm with the majority on this one. I don't mind a logo, be it knives or naked ladies, or most anything. Just as long as it doesn't overwhelm the blade.

That video clip was pretty halirous. I dont see why vanadium did not appreciate it. There were non logo blades involved doing all sorts of tricks.
Having a Busse logo on a blade is fine with me. Logo or sterile, it's all good when it's a Busse..

and had the busse you pictured actually had a logo with the SAME knife, you might have a legitimate argument.

Not really. You turning down a Steel Heart with a Steel Heart logo on it? :p

aha, from wikipedia:

"The image of the hand comes from the arms of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, and represents the relics of John the Baptist, three of whose finger-bones were supposedly brought back from Alexandria by Saint Tecla in the 6th century. The crown comes from the arms of Savoy."

there ya go. a weird funky lookin image to a guy with bad, baaaad american highschool education turns out to be an image with a great deal of history.

I always thought that meant always begin with two fingers...

I don't know anything about sog, but I've never really liked any of their model designs. the new cut out handles though... theres advertisement, and then theres just plain bad taste. for me, these fall into the later. no amount of wear and tear will get rid of a white blue and black color combo handle cut out :D

.

I agree with you there - plus, I prefer knives that don't have cigar cutters where my fingers go.

The Western version of the 'trade mark' comes from an era when literacy was not quite so ... de rigeur! And you should see what they hung in front of inns, taverns, and pubs!!

It all makes perfect sense. When you understand the context.

After reading this thread I want a shirt with my own picture on it. Everyone will think I'm a celebrity....
