Stupid! Massive Injury

That kind of thing is exactly why the first thing I do when I'm going to modify a knife is dull the edge good, I wait until I'm all done with the Mod and then I re-sharpen it. Take care and heal fast!

.

That is a good idea.

But dulling and resharpening to a polished edge takes forever. :grumpy:

Heal fast Bro!!! Just be thankful, cause it obviously could have been way worse. D-m- 50 stiches.

shiznit happens to the weirdest of us at the best of times! UH..........that doesnt quite sound right???? But I can fully empathize with you man, done some wonderous stuff myself with sharp chit! Heal quickly and Ill kick a rag head for you!!! (they told me that would make ya heal quicker, or was it.....feel better?????!) Anyway, Ill kick one for you for good luck on the quick/clean healing!

OUCH!

If it was a knife YOU sharpened I'm surprised you didn't lose you hand with that wicked sharp convex edge.

In all seriousness, I hope that you have a full and speedy recovery bud! Be well and heal up.

Be happy it didn't have a Ban Convexed' edge on it. You may not be around to even talk about it!!

Actually....JAB's convex edges are also stupid sharp. Probably the reason why he got 50 stitches instead of 5.

I can put an edge back on in a lot less time than it takes my hand to heal!!!!

:D

YEOUCH! Sorry about your injury JAB! Hope you heal fast and drill safe in the future.

Yes, very true and I totally agree. Some of us are just darn lazy. But if you work on 20 knives and get cut once then the non dulling option may actually look pretty attractive :D LOL! JK!

Seriously though... dulling a knife edge ahead of time is a very safe option. Lazy guys like me just try to be careful. Lately I have just been taping up the whole knife blade to protect from scratches and also to cover the edge some.

I use layers of masking tape on the blades when grinding or sanding on the stone handles......... The tape gives me a better grip on the blade and I don't need to redo the edge..... I go through a lot of tape but it is quick and safe.

I have a section of Kydex made like a gutter that I put of the edge of my knives when doing work on ANYTHING but the blade. It covers the edge and then a round or two of duct tape holds it in place.
I was polishing a nick out of a handle on a Cold Steel Trailmaster when I fumbled my grip on it. It stuck in the wooden floor of my shop between my feet!!
I stopped what I was doing and heat formed a blade guard right them. I just made it long enough to cover the blade from handle to just beyond the tip.
Since them making a simple Kydex blade guard secured by tape I the FIRST thing I do when working on a new knife if my standard one does not cover 100% of the edge.

I'm glad this didn't qualify you for Darwin awards; apparently, it's been pretty close (skin on the abdomen and all).

Heal quickly and please do post some pics of that nurse, would you? :D

Cheers,

Rok

When I was making my first knife i realized to flip it over on the other side so that the spine would hit me...

I did clamp it anyway though, makes for a rounder hole.

You have to post pictures!!

reading that gave me goose bumps.. holy crap bro, I hope it all heals up with no problems... yyeeeeeouch

WOW!!! You were'nt messin' around were ya? Glad to hear you are alright and I hope you heal fast.

BTW... POST THE PICS!
