jesus! What'll really piss you off is when you start thinking about all the knives you could have bought with the money you just spent in the emergency room.

That's gnarly bro!

Holy ufck, man. I hope that thing heals well. That pic turned my stomach, man. That tube DOES look like bone.

Here it is!!

Oh, man, I hope you are right handed! That left one is going to need a break for a while. Too bad you did not have a video camera running taping your modification process when this happened. Busse could have posted it as a training/safety video. Could have put some sweet 50's elevator music and a pleasant narrator's voice "now kids, lets watch what happens when Justabuyer looses focus for just a minute."

Crap !!!!!!!!!!!!! You win!!!!!!!!!!!!, my little 27 stitches ain't nothing.

Hope you feel better Bro. Great pics

Ow!

Sorry to hear about the hand, hope you have a fast and infection free recovery! From a medical standpoint, looks like you had a steady hand and an experienced person applying your stitches!! Always a plus especially with a wound like THAT!

Yes the Doc was Excellent. Very experienced ER Doc with FANTASTIC Nursing staff and ancillary support. They were all VERY nice and Really seemed to care. The kept my wife occupied and updated and helped calm her down. She was way more upset than I was.

Justabuyer,

I am very sorry to see you get that type of hurt. That sucks.

I had an incident with a table saw when I was young that took the whole face off my thumb. I was very lucky not to loose my whole thumb. The blade teeth somehow just snagged skin and flesh and somehow seemed to yank/tear it off my thumb to the bone.

I lost the chunk of flesh (later found burried in pile of sawdust under the saw). By the time I found the chunk of flesh the next day it was to late to salvage. So, I had to schedule plastic surgery where they grafted a chunk of skin from the outside/side of my hand to my thumb. The grafting procedure and re-attachment was about 5-10 times worse and more painful than the table saw.

Similar to what happened to you, I had a buddy that is NOT a knife person, but decided he wanted a a "Decent" pocket folder. He asked my advice and I "Tried" to help him. His problem is he is a Lefty! I tried to recommend good options for lefty, but he didn't want to spend over $20 - $25. He ended up getting a Kershaw Ken Onion Vapor (Manual).
The Vapor is a great knife for the money, but it has a single sided thumb-stud for right handed use (and a frame lock for right handed use...????). He was trying to unscrew the thumb stud and was apparently holding the knife in some unsecured way that it slipped when he was torqueing on the screw. I don't remember which finger, but he sliced a slab of most of his finger flesh off the tip of one finger. The cut was deep fillet "U'"-shaped cut like yours, but off the whole face of his finger.

I have to recommend to everyone else to consider putting a couple layers of masking tape or painters tape over the blade edges when doing certain work on these knives. I don't always do it myself. But, it is NO DOUBT a good idea and worth the time and effort.

Must be VERY carefull with sharp tools and power tools. Combining them is a multiplier factor of danger.

I hope you heel well.

Regards.

Ouch. *wince* Good luck man, that sucks. But chicks dig scars, and my wife says that she thinks the blood and stitches look pretty cool as they are.....

I had to get stiches many times as a Meatcutter, but never anything like yours. I saw a friend cut his finger off on the meat saw, had to pick it up to take to hospital, but they couldn't save it.

I hope your right handed, I only cut my right hand a few times but had a heck of a time wipping my azz when I did.

That's nasty man, worse cut I've seen without loosing a body part. I sure hope it heals up nice.

Well, thanks for the pics and all (still hoping for the hot nurse!) ... but ...

Every single muscle in my body is now 'puckered.' That was way worse than I expected.

And yet ... you were lucky. :)

You're lucky.

I got cut similar to Dave Brown but not so bad, only 5 stitches worth.

When I got to the emergency room they asked me a bunch of questions and then said "sign here please". If I had let go of my hand to sign I would have bled out right there on the counter.

I did get in to the room quick but there was a lot of mis-comunication and about every 45 minutes they sent a nurse to irrigate the wound. After the third shot I asked how many times they were going to irrigate it, then they finally sent in a doctor to stitch me up (about 45 minutes later).

Of course now the scar is ugly because they waited too long to stitch it up and I could have done a better job stitching it myself. Now I have my own sutures waiting because next time it's going to be DIY.

:eek:Holy BusseCombat wound Jim!!!!

Heal up Qwick;)

Lucky you didn't do that after you convexed theedge;)

Well The Quality of Care I got was Stellar. Everyone was so cool about the whole thing. SO yeah I really lucked out.

YIKES! Fingers crossed you heal up clean and fast. Hope you're right handed so there is still a good paw to work with for a while. We've all been there just to varying degrees so thanks for the reminder to take time and be safe...
can't believe no one has asked but since the knife is dull, the scales are ripped up and you can never look at it again without the reminder of getting bit...wanna sell it, cheap :D

Excellent advice! I have looked at taking a piece of the u or 3/4 box shaped aluminum that they sell at home improvement stores and taping that over edge if I were to work on something like this.
