Sturdy Wharncliffe Folder??

i'd consider the BM 550HG to be a sturdy knife with a wharncliffe-style (sheepsfoot, actually) blade and one of your preferred lock systems.

This is a good call. These are great knives. If you want something just a bit beefier, you could track down a Bone Collector variant of this knife. It's basically ex same knife with a slightly more substantial blade in D2 steel and has beefier G10 handles.

They are discontinued now but can be found on the interwebs without too much trouble. I recently picked one up for about a buck fifteen.

Jason Clark and Richard Rogers are not too hard to get as far as customs....

I personally like the CRK Insingo blades a lot and like the BM Sheepsfoot axis lock although keep in mind the BM has the hole similar to spyderco instead of thumb studs.

There's four that I like.

Thanks everyone, gives me lots to look at. Speaking of looks... that Sebenza Insingo is making me drool.

Must. Find. More. Money.

I really dig wharncliffe blades, but most of the ones I own are slipjoints. Don't suppose I could talk ya into trying a traditional in good ol' 1095 carbon steel? They don't look mean and they can get the job done...:cool:

Left to right: GEC #47 Viper in OD green canvas micarta, GEC #92 Talon in Goldenrod jigged bone, GEC #55 Hound Tooth in mexican bocote wood

But if you're dead-set on a modern locking one-hander, it doesn't get much better than a CRK Sebenza 21 Insingo (modified wharncliffe blade,) imo*:

Good luck, OP! :)

*ETA: the Zero Tolerance 0770 looks like it would be a very nice (and less expensive) alternative to a CRK Insingo... especially that carbon fiber model!

Those Sebenzas are so smokin' hot!!! Thanks for sharing.

Hogue EX-04 Wharncliffe. Only comes in black blade and choice of 3.5" or 4" blade and various G-Mascus G-10 handles. Button lock with secondary safety.

If you look up BladeHQ's shot show 2015 booth review of quartermaster they have that new doc brown (QSE8) flipper wharncliffe blade. I'll definitly be picking that up when it becomes available, definitely a sick piece

The one that I use the most is the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. I really like this knife, but I wish it was a tad more refined. Costing a bit more would not be a problem.

I'm very interested in QM knives. I hear so many people bashing their company on this site, but almost everyone who has owned one has loved it. Kinda interested in trying them out. Thanks.

Yeah, my buddy has a Tuff Lite. Looks like a capable tool, I just hate the feel of CS's smooth Griv-Ex on the handles. Feels so chintzy, even though I know it's tough stuff.

- With all of the reputable knife companies out there, I wouldn't touch QM knives if they were free. Their issues with Warren Thomas are well documented, not to mention questionable practices.

Hey, yeah I read through that thread a few days ago and it was really interesting. Wasn't able to figure out who Warren Thomas is though. I don't doubt what the folks here on BF are saying, it just all seems really conjectured? Not that I know any better......
