I'm a fan of Wharncliffes and have owned many.

The Tuff-Lite represents the best value. The ergonomics are beyond comparison - every time I used it, it felt like an extension of my hand. I often would continue to do work with it open in my hand just because of how natural it felt - never made an accidental cut with it.

The Hogue EX-04 is a heck of a knife. Custom-like fit and finish, with perfect pivot action and lockup. My only gripe is that it is certainly a TACTICAL knife. The curve of the blade and the teensy thin little blade tip made it unsuitable for hard-use or utility tasks. DOn't get me wrong, it'll cut stuff really damned well - but, that tip will be the first thing to go.

If you can get one for cheap, the CRKT Eraser is a fantastic sheepsfoot blade. Great flipping action and a nice forward-curved tip that won't snap off. (My picture! Custom scales, though.)

I onwed and carried a CF-inlay large Insingo Sebenza for a while, and it was really quite nice. I only sold it because I worried too much about losing it to enjoy carrying it. (My picture!)

The Yojimbo has the same tip issues as the Hogue. Still, an amazing knife.

The Boker Plus Nopal is a good option if you want a Tuff Lite but don't want a lockback. I've never carried or used one, but Boker is reasonably decent quality so I feel safe recommending it.

A Kershaw TiLT is basically the grail wharncliffe utility knife. I've had two in my hands and could never bring myself to damage such a rare item, but I know that someone without that inhibition would have one of the best utility knives ever designed.

The CRKT Edgie HA HA HA JUST KIDDING WHAT GARBAGE

Anyway, the Sog Access Card 2.0 is a nice little VG-10 wharncliffe knife that gets basically no attention because it's SOG.

The Boker Plus Mini Vanquish, now for a limited time in CF and VG10 (normally G10 / 440c), is an exceptionally good option as well.

The Kizer Ki405 is hard to beat as well. S35VN Titanium linerlock flipper for $100. Seriously. $100.

The Benchmade 555HG is a wonderful knife, and is worlds better with a custom grip. Seriously, that hollow handle ruins everything for me.

The Benchmade Triage knives can be found in a plain-edge with a wonderful sheepsfoot blade.

Spyderco's now-long-discontinued Rock Lobster would be a contender if it wasn't basically a collector's piece at this point.

Don't neglect the Nilte Quiete, though - it's worth looking into.

The Spyderco Southard, Kershaw Needs Work, Kershaw Echelon, and Kershaw Junkyard Dog are all very good options that I'm too tired of working on this post to type out descriptions and find pictures.

Amazing post. I owe you one!

So have you recieved the BM yet? I totally like the the design and was able to hand pick mine from my dealers lot so the action is as smooth as butter. The only downside is the handle material which can be upgraded. Once it's upgraded then it will be in another league in my opinion.

I just noticed the blade from my long handled pruning shears (anvil type) is a wharncliffe. I had broken the tip and replaced it and found it lying around. Not a folder however, but it sure looks like a knife with a chisel grind.

The Kizer Ki405 I received was badly off center and had lots of blade play. I was quite sad. Another wharnie I'm supremely happy with is the Brous Bionic. I've beat on it pretty good. The new 2.0 version removed the jimping which some said was too sharp and softened the shape of the flipper (same issue, too sharp).

wharncliffes are one of my favorite blades ... I have a Yojmbo but for food prep. Id reach for the CRK Sebenza Insingo or one of my favorite ZT blades the ZT 0770 ... its great for slicing.

For a tiny one, the Boker Wharcom is nice. Great for package opening.

I also had my Benchmade 555HG mini grip cut down to a real wharncliffe for legal blade length carry abroad.

I've been out of town, but will be home soon and am hoping that it's there waiting for me! In regards to upgrading the handles, is there a certain place you'd look for good options?
