Sub-$300 Katana (2014 edition)

The Chinese have taken over the mod market as well. $200-$300 high quality, American made products are being undercut by the Chinese ripping off the designs and making "clones" for $50 or less. In some ways, this is a good thing because consumers can get a decent, albeit not "spectacular," product for a reasonable price. I actually have a source out of Malaysia where I get $15 "clones" that the originals retail for well over $200. It's kindof sad, but like I said the consumers benefit. And everyone still has the choice to purchase an original if they are willing to spend the money. The materials may be of less quality - like silver plated, or stainless steel instead of brass. I have noticed the tolerances aren't as tight either. But the drop off in quality is not significant. The Chinese are pretty good at what they do.

probably because it was a Chinese guy that did the site, that's what I figured. I think the guy whom I chatted with was Chinese too. I dunno if you saw it in person you'd love this katana. That's why I want to get stuff not too many people talk about so I can get some more options open for people.

This is a beautiful thing. And why I appreciate you!

There is a gentleman out in Rochester that has an AMAZING business going on. How close are you to there? I have wanted to visit this guy's place for a long time.

What do you think I should get? ronin, skyjiro or dynasty?

Jesus, man. I'm not the one to ask! Just a dumbass novice. I would get 3 DP's. HAHA! The DF is what you don't have... and the Kult's prices are cheaper then their actual website. For myself, I had dismissed Skyjiro just because it was WAY out of my price range. So, I haven't researched them as much.

I'm pretty much done with firearms. Even hearing gun fire puts me in a haze now. I left those alone a long time ago.

As far as DF is concerned, I like the Musha class best. The other 2 classes are more for collectors. I'm sure they will cut their asses off, but the extra $$ is for the "traditional look." Here, I will copy: "The Musha class is anything but entry-level. Rather, it is the most durable blade among the swords we produce. Capable of taking a considerable bend and returning true, these blades make up for their workman-like looks with unparalleled cutting performance. This line is the first choice for cutting practitioners of all levels looking for a no-frills no-nonsense performance oriented sword."

I have never been a fan of guns. I live in a redneck infested county where everyone has a gun. But my point was the gentleman I mentioned actually developed the "ZenCote" technology. It is military grade color coating. Some interesting stuff. And he makes all his stuff in-house.

I believe the "Shobu" was recommended on this thread by a forumite, as well. $400 on their site, but I think the Kult has it for $325 or so.

All the DF products look great. I'm just thrifty by nature. Always looking for the best deal or bang for the buck.
