Successful Hunting Pics 2013/2014

Rabbits are hit and miss for me, sometimes I find them, other times I don't. Three was a good day for me. The added squirrels was a bonus.

Cottontails are less easy to find round here, but plentiful once you do. Jacks all over though. The only treerats I find here are in parks and neighborhoods, but not my 'hood. Gotta get up in altitude to find them more.

Gettin the new bow ready and tuned for spring, might just attempt a turkey with it.

I wish I could find some rabbits this year, no luck so far. I got several last years season. They are tasty critters, much better than squirrels.

Squirrels make a mean stew, they just take a bit of work. More flavor than rabbit. Muskrat, however, is still the most underrated of woodland meat - delicious.

Squirrel is one of my favorites. If your not going to cook it for hours in some kind of slow cooker, then the trick is to par boil them for about 1-1/2 hours. This will take away any toughness.

My mom would put squirrels in a pressure cooker for a little while and then fry them, then put them in a gravy. It was really good.

Got four more late this afternoon with the Kimber 22.

Nailed one this morning. Only saw two, the other got away scot- free. Weather forecast called for 50 degrees and I dressed accordingly, it was 38 with the wind blowing, froze my heinie off!

Not getting around very well these days due to health problems, but that fact may have increased my squirrel hunting success. Less walking and making a racket, more sitting still and quietly scanning the woods for game. I've owned the little Kimber for seven years now, it's found a permanent home here with me. Hunting on my land hasn't been good this year, but thanks to good old friends and inlaws allowing me to hunt their properties the season has turned out pretty good this year.

Felt awful this morning, a little better in the afternoon. Got out and went for a woods walk, and spotted this one. Only eight days left in the season now.

Squirrel season started off pretty slow, but it picked up after the first of the year. The woods around the inlaws places are loaded with squirrels. One brother in law owns a piece of land bordered by a big acreage of woods, which is leased by a hunting club, but his land being on the edge with the woods extending onto his land should offer some decent hunting, but I didn't make it to there this year, money was so tight we had to squeeze every penny for gas and couldn't blow any driving around too far. Maybe this fall! And there's some nice woods I've found over in the Bankhead Forest that show promise for good squirrel hunting, hopefully I can get over there too. Trying to remain optimistic is tough for me, I've always leaned towards pessimistic and depressive. But as long as I can make it into the woods I'll keep on trying!
