Went out pig hunting this weekend and was finally able to score some pork after more than a few attempts. Found this little porker along with 5 others near a water hole as soon as I turned around the bend of the road.
They were about 25yrds and away and took off running full throttle heading towards the hills. I chased after them on foot for about 50yds before I realized that I would lose them if I didn't shoot soon. Hit the prone position and fully extended my bipod so that I can angle my shot uphill. Worked the bolt to put a round in the chamber and easily found them in my crosshairs because I set my variable scope on 3.5X to get a larger FOV. When they were about 100yds away this little porker along with another stopped and turned sideways to head towards the side of the hill. Put my crosshairs right on the shoulder then BAM! It dropped like a sack of potatoes as if someone just flipped the off switch. My 243 Winchester 85gr Barnes TSX bullet entered the front shoulders, destroyed the top portion of the lungs, severed the spine, and exited the off side ribs.
I know that feral pigs are a dime a dozen in some states like Texas and Florida. They are not quite that prolific around these parts. I have spent more than a few hunting trips on both BLM and private land with very little luck until now. Many times I felt like I was just hiking around with guns in the scorching heat or pouring rain.
Me with my Tikka 595 in 243 Winchester mounted with a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X
Gutting and skinning out the pig with my friends BT4. I quartered it with a my FBMLE #41 when everything was finally cleaned up.
