Successful hunting trip this weekend

Congratulations..great hunt! I plan on going hog hunting in GA later this year. I hope I have good luck as well. The .243 is a great cartridge.

What part of GA are you going to hunt? The bigger ones are down south but were starting to get a good many up here in the northern part of state.

You can hunt them here through small game season, but can't have a center fire in the woods in small game season. We use .22 mag and try to put it in the ear, if not a heart/lung shot brings them down pretty quick. We never take a shot over 40 yds, and it's usually alot closer since theres not many places in the woods you can see over 40yds before the leaves fall.

Down in south GA they often use dogs(usually bulldogs) to bite down on there snout, so they can tie them up and carry them home alive to be dressed fresh. They can have that type of hunting, its not for me.

Whoops, sorry to ramble in your thread Ban.

Ban you are multi talented what knid of finish are you going to put on that one:D:D:D
save the teeth for handle material

The 243 Winchester is a very versatile round and definitely one of my favorite all around cartridge. I use it for ground squirrels, coyotes, deer, pigs, and everything else in between. I would love to do some out of state prairie dog shooting one of these days.

Ban, it's that picnic tablecloth camo u wear dude! Piggys run from picnics..... Awesome hunt! Your gonna have to come out here and we can go find Hogzilla with dogs and Busse Ak's.

Ban, great hunt.

I agree on the urban camo! :D

That wouldn't be similar to the BT4 that I'm waiting on...??? ;)

Cool.

C'mon now! Cut this city guy some slack. :D I normally wear a tan colored long sleeve shirt. It was 110 degree that day so I decided to keep my urban camo short sleeve instead :p

Yes, the knife used for the skinning is a BT4 that I made for my hunting friend.

Very nice! The .243 Winchster cartridge is mighty effective. Your shot placement was outstanding.

This is making me anxious for this year's antelope hunt, which will take place exactly one month from today in Wyoming.

Good luck on that antelope hunt. What caliber cooper arms will you be using for the hunt?

Ken,

I am a very big fan of the 22WMR. How big are these pigs that you guys shoot with 22mags?

Fairly typical south Geogia Sus Scrofa:thumbup:

OMG, it's started, HUNTING!!!

Sweet pics Ban thanks for sharing.:thumbup:

22 mag will definitely kill one at close range, but you better be a good shot!

Ban, that 85 grain bullet dropped him because of the spine shot. Any other placement and you'd have been tracking. It was an impressive shot with one on the move, props to ya

I generally shoot them with a 265 grain hunk of lead --- tends to roll them over and bleed them out all in one step :D

Not very big, most not much over 50 lbs up in this part of the state. My friend did kill one over 100lb last fall on a WMA close by. He's taken several larger one's in the southern part of state.

The really huge one's killed in south GA and AL, like in pic above, were all farm animals or pets before being given to a hunting preserve or turned loose.

BTW- The only reason I use the 22WMR is because rimfire is all you can hunt with in small game season, and the best hog huntings nearby is on WMA land, were you don't want to get caught with a centerfire in smal game season.

If you did decide to hunt smallish pigs with it, use a .22wmr round at close range only, be precise, and use the round that will give you the most penatration. The Winchester 40 grain solid will give you the most. The CCI solid and winchester hollow point will act about the same, and would do well also. Stay away from the CCI Hollow Point, or any of the newer polymer for this type of game.

I use an Anschutz 1516D, and it's crisp 2.6lb trigger really helps when you must make an accurate shot.

Congrats on the pig but I have never seen anyone hunt in blue jeans and a button up shirt that is tucked in!! :) Must be the new thing!! :)
