Successful hunting trip this weekend

Looks like a great hunt and a lot of fun...I wish there were feral pigs around here(not really, I just want an excuse to hunt year around)

22 mag will definitely kill one at close range, but you better be a good shot!

Ban, that 85 grain bullet dropped him because of the spine shot. Any other placement and you'd have been tracking. It was an impressive shot with one on the move, props to ya

I generally shoot them with a 265 grain hunk of lead --- tends to roll them over and bleed them out all in one step :D

I normally take my 444marlin using 320gr WFNGC hardcast bullets. I couldn't do that anymore because of the stupid new law that restricts the use of lead in the condor zone.

The 85gr Barnes-X Sollid copper bullet holds together very well and penetrates very deeply. I don't doubt that it could penetrate and exit a 350lb hog on a broadside shot.

Congrats on the pig but I have never seen anyone hunt in blue jeans and a button up shirt that is tucked in!! :) Must be the new thing!! :)

Now you have. It is not a new thing. I have been doing it for some time ;) My shirt is tucked in so that it doesn't get in the way of my sidearm a Smith Wesson 610 10mm that I had reamed out to 10mm Magnum. I can shoot 10mm MAG, 10mm, and 40SW out of the same gun with full moon clips:thumbup:

Congrats Ban! Nice piggy and shot. Props to you on you attire as well. I have never worn camo for tracking or hunting.;)

Makes sense  We don't have quite as strict rules around here :D

444 Marlin is a great pig round. I found out last year it'll drop a buck pretty good at 20 yards too, lol.

We need some pics of that Smith??? I'm off to do a search on 10mm mag, never even heard of such a beast...

Here is my Smith 610 10mm Mag. And a side by side comparison of a 10mm vs 10mm Mag cartridge.

The 10mm Mag was originally designed for the AMT Automag by lengthening a 10mm. I don't have a 40sw cartridge to compare because I hardly shoot that stuff. The ballistics and power of a 10mm Mag is very close to the 41 Magnum.

My 40sw, 10mm, 10mm Mag Trio out of the same gun is sorta like the long framed Ruger 357 Max that can shoot 38spl, 357mag, and 357 Max. Except my 610 is a whole lot faster on the reload using full moon clips.

That looks like a beast!

Who did the gunsmithing, what did it cost, and where do you find the ammo?

You can just rent a 10mm chamber reamer and lengthen the chamber to 10mm MAG specs. I just had mine done from the place that I rented it from because I was too lazy to do it myself. It probably cost me about 60bucks total to do the work. I can't remember where I got it done as it has been a looong time ago. Any fairly competent gunsmith can easily extend the chamber with a 10mm chamber reamer.

10mm Mag is strictly a reload proposition. There are no production loads that I am aware of. Starline makes the brass and there are plenty of .401 bullet choices. You can go from blazing 135gr at 1700+ fps to the slower superhard hitting 240gr FNGC hardcast. I have a mould for the 200WFNGC and 240FNGC and cast my own bullets because those are the ones that I shoot the most. I also shoot alot of the 180gr copper plated bullets from West Coast Bullets. Those are really accurate out of my gun. I can easily keep small plate sized groups out to 50yds with those bullets using a steady rest. Even bowling pins out to 75 yards are not safe from my Smith 610.

I nailed this nice running coyote at around 50yds with my Smith 610 using the 200WFNGC bullets.

Thanks for the info Ban, that's an awesome set-up.

And nice hit on the yote!

Ban, great detail info on the Smith 610.

Its been one of those pistols on my radar for many years to go with my .40 autopistols.

I also have a Smith 625 in .45 ACP that I like to pair up with my 1911s and G21s.

Full-moon clips in revolvers are just fun, fast, and cool.

I was shooting my 625 in IDPA for awhile until they limited revolvers to 4" or under. I just couldn't drop the barrel length on my 625. a 5" .45ACP revolver barrel is just awesome.

I like the 610 a lot as well!

PS - Your urban camo is fine. At least it wasn't red/white tablecloth checks! :D

What is the pressure rating of the 10mm Magnum? I can't seem to find it in my SAAMI references.

I recently picked up a 625 as well to go along with my 1911. Mine is a older one with hammer mounted firing pin instead of the new one with the transfer bar. I hear that they are very accurate but I have not yet had a chance to shoot it yet.

The 610 is the most accurate revolver I own and is the reason why I prefer to carry it in the field. Pick one up and you won't be sorry. It is bar none my favorite wheelgun. A tackdriver right out of the box. I hear a lot of 610 owners agreeing that the 610 is superbly accurate.

I don't have that info on hand. All I know is that is in the same pressure range as the 44magnum. The standard 10mm is a pretty high pressure automatic cartridge that is in the 39K CUP or 42K PSI

Pull the trigger on your 625 and you'll find one heck of an accurate revolver as well.

I love wheelgun/semi-auto pairings.

I will look for a 610. Almost got one about 7 years ago and didn't. :grumpy:

Smith also has (or had) a 9mm J-frame.

Full-moon clips are just cool! I love wheelguns.

That was why I was curious. The 10mm has a mean working pressure of 37,000 psi, whereas the .44 magnum has a mean of 36,000 psi. If the 10mm magnum is proportionately hotter, yowza!

The 36,000-37,000 psi range sounds about right for standard 10mm loadings.

I just realized that the 10mm pressure info I quoted was published by McNett of DoubleTAP ammo. His stuff runs quite a bit hotter. The 42,000psi 10mm pressure was from using a 10" Contender pushing a 135gr Nosler JHP at a blazing 2022fps.
