"Suck it up and just accept G&S"...thoughts?

I’m equally mine boggled by the slippery slope paranoia crowd who seems to simultaneously think our federal government is both the most incompetent as well as the most diabolically evil organization in history. They can’t really be both. My take is it’s a clumsy effort to close the tax gap, and it will have some seriously bad unintended consequences for this hobby among others. But it’s not the first horseman of the apocalypse. I personally will only deal with G&S with folks I don’t already have a history with. If I don’t know you then you won’t be getting a MO from me.
Well being as you just joined, you probably don't "know" anyone. Buy and sell as you chose, I don't care. I'll buy from people I have been around on here since 2012, and sell through MO. Don't do business with me then.

As far as what mind boggles you.. 👍 don't miss anything on your forms, do exactly as you are told. Good luck.

Having a rough night are you? Cheer up, it’ll get better.

its a bunch of bs getting a 1099 for selling stuff over a smallish limit and having to file for it to avoid being hit for more taxes.....i dangle close on talkin politics and don't want to....so ill say this instead....... increasing oversight on zelle, PayPal and the like is complete bs...so is beefing up the irs power in the regard of auditing staff........

neither helps any Americans at all.

Quite fine actually, thanks for asking.
Glad to hear it. Seemed it was starting to get personal so I was a little concerned. I might have “just joined” but I’ve had nothing but good interactions so far, this has been one of the most positive corners of tbe internet I’ve come across. Any of those I’ve dealt with so far I’m happy to do direct payments with and cut out PayPal. For others It’s g&s until we’ve established a history. Just my preference, to each their own.

Absolutely agree, I think it’s an absurd overstep personally.

This topic is rather personal, IMO due to the ramifications directly impacting personal lives, families, etc.. It is also political, which is off limits in this section. There is much that goes with this problem that cannot be discussed here. As far as personal with you, nope. We're good.

And I guess maybe an overstep I’ve had a little extra time to come to terms with since my state has had the $600 limit for 1099 reporting already in place, so it’s nothing new here. Still ridiculous. I think we all agree on that point.

So, the OP stated that he started the thread with words to provoke people and some play right in. Mature. Anyways, I’ll sell how I want and ask for what payment method of my choice. If someone doesn’t agree then they don’t need to buy. Simple as that

The point remains that the way you all choose to conduct your sales may or may not have an impact on the overall security and safety of this site for all users. That’s really what I wanted to have debated here. The “you do you, I’ll do me” response is really just side stepping that debate. I guess the most convincing replies I’ve seen so far against this point is that G&S is not particularly safe anyway given PayPal’s confusing TOS. Are there other points that take the debate topic head on? Evidence that scams haven’t increased due to these changes? I’m a relatively new member, but to me it seems like there have been an a lot of hacked accounts lately. Coincidence? Probably.

The hacked accounts are the symptom of members not securing their accounts, not policy change. It may provide a bit of cover for the scammers, but many of these scams were just too good to be true. Selling a brand new Hinderer for $200 doesn’t raise any alarms? Only providing one picture, or no picture. Seems that a lot of these scams could be defeated by asking for a video of the action or something like that.

I'll go with evil then

To me it is a matter of right and wrong. I think it's wrong for me to use PayPal as a seller requesting F&F payments when they explicitly say you can't do that. The fact that I think PayPal is wrong to not provide clear guidance on buying and selling knives and wrong to have inconsistent seller protection on that matter doesn't justify me not paying fairly for the service of theirs that I am still in fact using. The fact that I think the government is wrong and just looking to suck up more power doesn't relieve me of the obligation to pay lawfully enacted taxes.

... but I can sure as hell complain about all of it while I do.

I think the further you examine what is "lawful" the more irritated you will become. The government is essentially immune from prosecution, they do terrible evil things, and who is held accountable? No one. Tax me when I buy something, tax me for selling something, tax me on things I own permanently and forcibly remove it from me if I don't pay them, tax tax tax while they usurp our freedom while enriching themselves while simultaneously exempting themselves from being held accountable for their crimes. Just keep doing as they say, they are benevolent and have our best interests in mind, right?

What is right and wrong on a larger scale is ignored, but everyone just looks the other way, bends the knee, and empties their pockets. F that.

And epstein didn't kill himself.

Sad that half of our country is blind to all of this, since it doesn't affect them. It doesn't matter, until it does. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

Agree for the most part. Except 'they' is really us, just those of us who lucked or worked their way into those positions of power. Despite all the negative, I have a hard time finding a better example of how a government should be run. Too political I guess for this forum, but I'll take the bad with the good here :)

Willful ignorance or lack of intelligence, both bad. It is a problem.

Or just a better understanding of context. I'm guessing you haven't lived in many other countries, or been through the sort of actual political crisis that happens elsewhere.

How naive.
