sucker's bet

I joined Weight Watchers today, the accountability and tracking were very effective for me the last time. I do not want to lose weight the wrong way cuz who the heck wants saggy skin? LOL I am already on a water pill for slightly elevated bp, so that's cool. My biggest problem is going to be movement, I am really lazy. I have decided to walk 1.5 miles a day this first week, so that is a (small) start. Thanks everyone :) I will also be checking out some local gyms and/or a personal trainer.

Lady Gravel has only started exercising after losing a good chunk just being accountable for what we eat. Ease into it!

Change it to most body percentage lost. Otherwise unless he cheats on the diet, you won't win. Percent is more fair and competitive. Good luck!

this is definitely the first thing I would do, I spent a summer working on losing weight, and a couple of girls (and other guys, same age as me) were doing the same. I consistently lost 5-7 pounds a week by watching calories, fat grams, and exercising (I spent most of my days exercising).

A good reference book is "The Wellspring Plan", that is what I followed (it was called the Healthy Obsession program when I did it). I lost about 60 pounds that summer, I am a guy though....I really need to do that again, but longer term

Best of luck to both of you. Sure it is a bet but you will both win in the end. Let me know if you need any advice. I dabble in a little PT.

easier for guys to loose weight then for girls ? if that is a trick someone tell me !! i need to loose at least 40 pounds :/

drink lot of water :)

Google "The velocity diet". Healthy eating and exercise are best for long term, but if you need to drop lbs fast, the velocity diet will do it. It's very similar to what Doctors prescribe to morbidly obese folks too. A word of caution though, YOU CAN NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ON THIS DIET!!! Your liver and kidneys will be strained as is, add in alcohol and you'll get jaundice like symptoms and start shutting down. You will get shredded and reprogram your taste buds, but it takes some serious willpower to get through the whole thing.

Good luck!

BTW- I'd rather go to Prague too...

I am a true believer in calorie counting. It is a pain in the butt to do but it is the easiest way. As long as you are burning more than you are taking in you will lose weight. The one thing you have to watch out for is not eating enough.

you burn more calories lifting weights then going for a jog.

atkins dies has some potentially dangerous side effects, i would stay away.

remember whenever you work out, eat something small after. like a granola bar or some milk yogurt something healthy.

eat 5-6-7 times a day

and lure the hubby with bacon covered bacon

I am doing weight watchers so keeping track of everything is a huge help. I do not want this to be short term so radical dieting is out of the question. I really need to motivate my lazy arse to get some cardio in. Chunky and happy is my goal. Hubby said if I were to get down to my ideal BMI lol he would dump my skinny butt. Really the contest is an aside to getting healthier. This is a win/win all around.

SueZQ,
I saw this and thought, gee all will be good if you just have a Diet Coke with your meals!!!! Like a magical weigh loss drink!!!

But seriously, good luck!! My wife lost a good sum of weight with Weight Watchers!

Just so you know. The BMI scale has been outdated for around 15-20 years. I had a doctor tell me that I was 70lbs overweight according to the BMI. I told him he better start chopping off limbs if he wanted me at that weight. :p I choose to go by looks and how you feel.

Hawaii..
Warm climate. Sandy beaches. Sunscreen! Spf 30-70+!!!
Wale watching. Fishing. Hunting. Spearfishing. Camping. Luau. Fire dancing. Hula. FOOD!
Laying on the beach listening to the wave crash on the shore after eating at the luau. Zzzzzzzzz..

Load the fridge with beer and steaks. He cant resist that!
Good luck.
