sucker's bet

FCut away the following from your diet:

Rice
Bread
Potatoes
Pasta

Eat more of this:

Protein
Fat

Oh, and eat cabbage!

The best advice I can give is to eat a healthy breakfast. I've found starting your day with a good food choice has made it easier for me to continue making good food choices throughout the day. It seems too simple to really matter but for some reason it has helped me. I've been doing P90X as well as staying away from any and all fast food. It's not easy but the best things in life aren't just handed to you without any effort at all on your part. Hard work does pay off, I have faith in you Sue! Good luck

Good luck to the both of you! I wish I could go to Hawaii, are we allowed to team up, Sue?

The hubby has already been to Hawaii, so maybe you should send him some beef jerky or bacon with our next shipment of knives, sabotage him, and then come to Hawaii...LOL I am really looking forward to going ANYWHERE with him, so again, win/win.

Just read something about how drinking two liters of cold water can burn up to 123 calories. The cold water lowers your temperature, and your body burns more calories in order to get it back up to temperature.

I don't know how safe that is, though.

It is perfectly safe. Atleast it never hurt me. :D

I am a true believer in calorie counting. It is a pain in the butt to do but it is the easiest way. As long as you are burning more than you are taking in you will lose weight. The one thing you have to watch out for is not eating enough.

Try reading Gary Taubes latest book, "Why We Get Fat, and What to Do About It". He explains, based on the latest research, and historical knowledge, why the 'calories in/calories out' model is simply wrong. He goes on to explain how high protein/high fat/very low carb works, and is safe and effective. The only downside is giving up beer.

resinguy, you are a lot smarter than me, but I think Gary Taubes is pretty brave to state the "calories in/calories out" model is wrong. Millions of people have been losing (or gaining) weight that way since who knows when. I really don't think it's a "earth is flat" theory. In fact, I do not personally know one person who has lost weight and kept if off with a low carb diet fad, but I know many who have lost weight and kept it off with proper diet and exercise.

Nutrition>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Workout

You can't outwork a crappy diet. Also check the books by the Biggest Loser trainers they actually have been successful at getting people to lose weight. And you will have to count KCALS. sorry, no one wants to portion control but its a must no matter what you eat.

This is where we have the problem. What is the proper diet? If the proper diet is based on the USDA recommendations and the food pyramid, then why are over 40% of Americans overweight?

I can fit in a suitcase!!! Don't ask me how I know that LOL

Well, it's been working for me. Lost 18# last August, and have kept them off.

You might be interested to follow the experience of Charlie Martin, science/tech writer for PJ Media, as he chronicles his own very low carb diet and exercise regimen.

That's the point of Taubes thesis, that the nutrition establishment advice of low fat, high carb over a lifetime leads to insulin resistance and inexorable weight gain.

I dropped about 70lbs eating a Paleo diet. Best part... BACON! When I'm hungry I eat I just make smart choices. Check out Everyday Paleo. They have a website and you can get the book off Amazon. You can also get Paleo Solution the book. Very good info.
