Suggestions to speed up reprofile process

Thanks David and everyone else. It sure did help me a lot and now Im addicted to seeing the flatness after a good reprofile lol. I still think I may go with a xxc dmt for the idea of non dishing. Although I haven't had any issues as of yet

Get in the habit of moving around on the stone a little, especially when doing heavy grinding or initial work. These SiC stones will dish, but its slow and you can manage most of it without needing to lap it flat but once every few years if even.

I tend to do the heavy stuff on the ends and the finish work in the middle. The toughest part is keeping an outside long edge sharp for those knives that have a crisp plunge line and/or no choil or notch. I usually develop one side of the stone with a bit of a rounded corner for doing most knives and ones with recurve edges. The other long edge I keep sharp.

Get a cheap belt sander, its much easier and results are same.

True, but you'll have difficulty porting it to Grandmothers during holidays when the house is full of people. You'll then need extension cords and room. Try taking it deer hunting & camping with the guys, to do their knives. You'd have to always bring the knives to your house where it's set up. Plus, using a stone and free hand doesn't heat up the metal. Not to mention cost over 100$. DM

Heavy, I see what your saying. I have rounded a knife's edge at the plunge line. It's easy to do and can happen quickly while taking off metal. So, a good point.
Bucket, your welcome. DM

Don't rule out the 140 atoma. Similar cost, and I think I like it better after 2 months usage. Between dmt XC and xxc the XC may be a bit slower but I prefer it also.
