Super thin blades

IMO, this is where manufacturers have missed the boat. With all the "supper "steels we should have some nice thin blades with respectable strength. A nice flat grind helps also.

Yeah that would be great,or even just optimize the steel for max hardness in an extreme line of knives i.e. extreme use p2 in m4 with no warranty on blade if it chips or breaks something you just can use for cutting and not abusing

It gets left out of these types of conversations, but the Manix is one helluva slicer. Thinner blade than the PM2, full flat ground, they can be incredible. I’d wager my CruWear Manix would compete against my traditionals on any given day.

I must have been unlucky, my Cruwear Manix is the thickest bte Spyderco I have. (1st sprint with the light gray scales.)

Boker Exskelibur I at about 0.1" with 0.011" behind the edge.
Spyderco Spydiechef and Stretch are on the thin side.

Agree with Miso. In terms of slicy modern folders I haven’t found one that performs better than the exskellibur. The design is great without a weak tip.

Highly recommend you get the Boker Exskelibur 1 full ti framelock version as it seems to be the best of the Exskelly 1s. I know you said you have a Exskelly 1 but is it the ti framelock which comes with s35vn?

Love the UKPK, but it specs at 0.098" (2.5mm) stock.
I also have a UKPK in BD1N and an Urban in K390. When I started paying attention, knives that can actually cut became my main preference unless the design got me riled up enough to ignore it.

I myself prefer “dinner” steels.

To actually contribute to the thread, what about the Spyderco lil nilakka? I think those are nearly a zero grind. I never got around to picking one up... Might need to remedy that.

Carbon fiber run for me, the first Spyderco I received that was sharpened by their new fancy sharpening robot.

Start Wowbagger recording play back:
Pick the knife you just LOVE . . . in the steel that you CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT.
Get it ground to the thickness you like.
Float away on cloud 9

Mine as you know is CTS-XHP. Four inch blade ground full flat to 1.9mm (0.075 inch)
For what is is worth I would do the exact same thing in M4 if I could get it in the handle I like.
Closest thing is my Para2 in M4 and I swear . . . even though the steel at the pivot is TECHNICALLY thicker than my Manix . . . my experience in USE is that the blade is thinned out very nicely very soon after we travel away from the pivot and I would much rather use a Para2 when I want a thinnish blade than my Manix.

As long as the steel is hard enough to support the geometry. I only say that because I have had regrinds fail when they were of a softer (57 HRC) steel, and would fold over easily. Other than that, you are certainly correct. Thin is the path to bliss...

M390 to 0.005" bte for an expert user

Even if you had the tools it takes experience and skill gained form lots of practice.
I've seen amazing work from people that use a $30 harbour freight 1x30. So it's not just the tools.

Forgot to mention, I also have a Mantra 1. Pretty happy with mine, action is good and it slices quite well... but you can always get thinner.

I've thought about getting some regrinds, they are just really expensive. I actually picked up a 20CV Mini Grip with a regrind to a super thin HG and it's nice, but I think the regrind could have ruined the HT because I can't get it to hold an edge. Sadly I don't have a few thousand lying around to get my favorite knives reground.

leek is only 0.09" - and has a really aggressive almost full height taper...

I have a Rectifier. Very thin, slices pretty well. Doesn't get carried nearly as much as it should.

My Hap40 Stretch is very thin for a modern folder and a nice slicer.
My only Stretch is HAP40, and the previous owner did a little refinishing with his belt sander and took off a little more than just the surface, it has a half hearted regrind. Another knife I should carry more.
