Which production company do you think has the best quality?
Spyderco?
Benchmade?
cold steel?
etc. etc.

I am interested in PRODUCT QUALITY ONLY. For this survey I don't care about price, customer service, company ego, etc.

Please answer only once and include a brief reason why.

Thank you all.

Since Chris Reeve's knives are considered production knives, I would have to say that his knives are of the highest quality available. Walt

If Chris Reeve Knives is a production company then I agree that it is the best production company. I have a large sebenza that is as good as most of my custom folders.

For consistantly good quality, i'd go with Spyderco, with GT Knives a very close second...

I wholeheartedly agree about Chris Reeve.I think Microtech is also worthy of consideration.A quality knife consists of two parts,an excellent, practical design and the the flawless manufacture of that design.
Both companies use well though-out designs that are durable and user friendly. Then they manufacture them to the tightest possible tolerances with the best available materials.
When people complain of price for either one I notice that they are not speaking as long term users of the products.

I am "mostly" looking for input on the run of the mill type companies such as Buck, Gerber, Spyderco, etc. Chris' knives border on custom, I think.
If chris Reves is your first choice, please give a second choice also.

Chris Reeves is the obvious first line choice.
In descending order of the ones I have dealt with:
Spyderco
Benchmade
Cold Steel
Victorinox

After CRK I would rate Speedtech very highly.

My new SpeedTech is topnotch quality.

For high quality, time in and time out, Spyderco has demonstrated exceptional consistency.

The Microtechs I've handled have been great also.

My pick would be Spyderco and Victorinox but I don't have any experience with CRK or other similar high end companies. What's surprising to me is that 20 years ago I paid $35-40 for a Buck 110 and $18-25 for a Victorinox Climber andt today I could buy those same knives for about the same price. Or, I could pick from a large number of other knives or multi-tools with more features and better blade steels for less than $50.

If hand made khukuri's are considered production, then Bill Martino of Himalayan
Imports defines quality in the product and customer service. His customer sevice skills are the gold standard all companies should strive to reach. NONE finer IMHO. Chris Reeves is up there close.
I have had warranty service from Spyderco, Benchmade and Ontario also. All good, they took care of the problems, but no Bill Martino.

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?
And just what are you going to do with this one that you can't do with the others?
What is the purpose of all these knives anyhow??

From the knives I own, this is my experience:
1) William Henry
2) Spyderco and Benchmade
3) Buck

It might be a cop-out to list Spyderco and Benchmade equal, but out of the knives I have, each may have a couple of minor flaws but nothing in terms of production quality to put one above the other.

Microtech, Chris Reeve, Spyderco, Benchmade. In that order,IMHO.

In terms of product quality and consistency?
1. Spyderco/Victorinox (tie).

2. Buck/Cold Steel/CRKT (tie)

3. Kershaw

4. Benchmade

Sorry for all the ties...but this is my opinion on my favorites as far as QC, etc.

As the others have stated, I think CRK wins hands-down if you want to consider semi-production shops. William Henry also makes excellent knives that probably fall in the same category.

As far as regular production knives go, I’d rate the companies I’ve done business with as follows:

1) Microtech (if you like their stuff, the quality is without par)
2) Spyderco (nice designs; consistently excellent quality)
3) REKAT (innovative designs and good quality)
4) Benchmade (I really like their designs, but their QC has been spotty in my experience)
5) Buck
6) Case (yeah, I know they ain’t chic, but I pick one up every once in a while for kicks)
