I only have experience with Boker, SOG, Al Mar, Victorinox, Shrade, Buck, Ka-Bar, Frosts, Leatherman, Gerber and Spyderco.

IMO, my Victorinox and Spyderco are right up there for fit, finish and durability. I've taken them everywhere and done almost everything I can imagine to them, and they still lock up tight, sharpen easily and provide a great edge which lasts long enough for my purposes.

Stihl,
The reason I included the Boker "SkyWalker", is I love Michael Walkers work. I carry a Spyderco M. Walker Lt/WT, but I know that he carries a "SkyWalker", I've seen and held his personal carry knife. It's a beautiful knife and if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

Tom,
I agree, the line between the quality of production and custom knives, can get a little blurry. Isn't that great for us knife buyers, so many choices?

I'd like to be the first to say, Camillus. I have heard many people say that they love Camillus knives, including my father. I think that after more than 120 years in the biz, Camillus knows what they're doing.

In my experience, among "the run of the mill type companies", Spyderco wins hands down.

I'd like to also give an honorable mention to a company that only one other person has named -- CRKT. Take one of their recent knives, stick a Benchmade label on it & you've at least doubled the price. IMO, they give great bang for the buck.

Hey Brian, Sal from Spyderco wants to know if he can use your endorsement in their next Ad Campaign?

"In my experience, among "the run of the mill type companies", Spyderco wins hands down."

I'd like to put in another vote for Spyderco. I've owned dozens of them over the past ten years( since I bought my first, a Police) and I've never been disapointed with any of them. After that I'd say you can't go wrong with Benchmade or Cold Steel and Microtech is in a class by itself.

Why has no one chosen Cold Steel as their first choice?? Are they not that good?

Another question, Do you think a spyderco or a benchmade can hold up to the same tests that CS shows on the "proof" tape. I know Cold Steel is full of hype, but does the tape prove anything?

Spyderco is surely one of the top. I'm surprised that Benchmade is riding so high. Consistently over time surely counts for something.

That's why I will put a plug in for Swiss Army Knives. I own at least 20 and there's never been a bad one in the lot. I've been buying them since the 60's and I've used them for just about every conceivable purpose, including cutting down small trees and they are tough, last forever, and come with great fit and finish every time.

SAK is el numero uno in my book. They may not be tactical or flashy but they are always great (and always in my pocket).
