These are all good suggestions. I'm always amazed at people who go into the woods or even to the office without a knife.

All who stated a SAK know what they're writing about. Normark has it right - Rucksack SAK for sure. Will leave all others in the dust when it comes to REAL wilderness survival. MUCH more versatile and useful than all other folders. Just ask Doc Ron Hood.

Again, I'm surprised!
I bet I can accomplish anything with my Big 'Benza that almost anyone can accomplish with their SAK.

Hey Leo....

Although the Benza is a great knife,, it just can't compete with a Ruk SSAK knife...

There are Many more things to do in the wilderness other than sharpening sticks and so forth...

Sure you'll get it done with the Benza,, but the SAK is more of a specialized tool for the job.

You have to know what each tool can do on the SAK,,they All have many different jobs...

Last time I made a firebow bearing out of an antler I used my SAK,, and it was done in a few minutes..Not sure how you'd accomplish the task with a Benza,, especially when it comes to hacking a tine or two off....

For $35.00USD You can't beat it with a stick...

I have changed my mind after getting and using the Al Mar SERE 2000. This is the folder I would want. It rocks!

Lesseee... If only one then it's gotta be my Leatherman Wave. If that doesn't count as a folder then I'll take my Spyderco Starmate.

Hello,

Well for one i wouldnt carry just a folder in a survival situation,id carry a fixed blade as the primary knife, and the folder as a back up. So as a back up folder to a fixed blade i think i would choose a sebenza large model for doing utility cutting and leave the heavy work to the Fixed blade.

I had previously posted either Large Sebenza or a Buck 110. After reading all replies, I would like to say that either the Leatherman Wave or Leatherman Supertool would be nice, if they qualify.

Now if we could just bring a large fixed blade, a multi-tool, a folding knife, Coleman Stove, small generator, power saw, TV, etc., etc., etc.

Ahh, the voice of reason! It's unlikely any of us would get stuck in a survival situation without some forewarning, in which case, we'd all be smart enough to have a big fixed blade on hand, right? In which case: my Ka-Bar F/U, my Gerber A/F to fend off annoying drunken campers

and a hatchet, fer gosh's sake!

In the so-unlikely-it's-almost-impossible situation where'd I'd be caught in a survival type situation without any warning whatsoever, but for some reason have a seemingly magical choice of folding tools to hand, I'd have to go with the Uluchet (can't remember who makes it). Or maybe my cellular phone - it's a folding tool, right?

Sorry!

why you would want a emerson commander for a survival situation is beyond me. dont get me wrong, i love my commander and would only trade it for another commander or any thing else with a wave(gotta love it) bit the blade seems to me too much fighter than survival knife, and it would be a true bi+ch to sharpen in the field. you would need a spyderco #204 to do it.

if i was going to need a survival folder, it would probably be a sebenza or a BM 750BT or a apogee. strong, solidly built and relatively rust resistant. reasonably fast opening for those camp fire squables or for slaughtering your fellow survivors so you can have a dinner(read that donner) party.

for a survival knife, why chose a chisel ground recurve that is going to be a pain in the bu++ to sharpen.

what pocket sharperner would you chose? for your choice of knife or for the commander.
i have a gatco triangle sharperner ion my pocket to use with my commander, if it ever needs it, which it wont cause its a fighter, and it never sees work. i would have that and a coarse and fine small DMT sharperners in my pocket to carry with me into the situation if i could.

Any of these three would be my top choice:
CRK Large Sebenza (BG42)
Spyderco Military (440V, Plainedge)
Al Mar SK2 (SERE 2000) (VG10)

Can't go wrong with any of them.

Hello All,

Wilderness survival - I don't actually want to land up in such a situation.

.
If limited to a folder ??? (not a good idea), I would choose my SwissTool or any SAK with a saw blade.
Regards.

How "Survival"? It depends on what we will be doing and for how long.

Hopefully, I would have a good fixed blade and a SAK.
