Survival gun.

Sometimes you just don't know when a need for survival preparedness will present itself.
I agree, having a good rifle would sure trump packing a hand gun. I don't carry a rifle all the time though. I do have a revolver with me when I am afield.
S&W Model 63. Adjustable sights, 4 inch barrel, and while not as accurate as a rifle at 50 yards, it is more than adequate at ranges under that.
A LOT of .22 LR ammunition can be carried for a small weight penalty.

There is no perfect survival tool. Lets not let the discussion carry that tone please.

If this Kel-tec is near as precise as my other .22 pistol, I would have absolutely no problem carrying it in anticipation of a possible need for it to deliver some food or respectable safety. 30 rounds fully loaded, and just over a pound. I won't discount anything that delivers that, as worthless. Situational yes, but thats for another forum.

Sorry for the loaded topic (no pun). Its about the guns potential for survival duty in my opinion, same as that of the other guns mentioned.

THAT my friend is a great trail gun! I'm all about the .22 for the out of doors. Normally I carry a 4" Browning Buckmark in the woods, but I love me a good wheel gun. :D

I have to agree. The rifle wins this game. Though in this forum some are claiming they have sub.5 moa via pistol at 50 yards.... If that is true, take the pistol, but I call bs on that.

Are you calling me out? I never said .5moa, that would be a little over .5", can be done though, right pistol, shooter, and ammo. You obviously dont know very much, and like so many gun people nowadays probably spend more time jackinfoff while looking at your fing gun and never go drop the sear. :jerkit:

my friend and i easily shoot out 1" orange stickers with his ruger 22/45 @ 50 yds. It has a paklite barrel and a cheap reddot with SOLOW mounts. This isn't .5 moa but we're not pros either. Nolan has taken many squirrels with this pistol. I know there is a lot of BS'ers on the internet, but rimfires can be VERY accurate if you headspace your rounds, divide them up and find out what your gun likes. Hint: It could be different headspaces for different manufacturers, loads, etc. i use a neck-turned .223 case:barf: and a mic to head space.

Contrary to popular belief tuned semi auto pistols are very very accurate. Sometimes you just have to tweak loads and recoil springs.

22 caliber is underrated .
I love the 22caliber whether 22LR or 22Mag . I prefer the 22LR and I prefer it in rifle form . Neat Pistol looks like a re-invention of AMT automag in 22mag from the 80's

Kel Tec was Grendel back in the day, and Grendel had a similar hicap .22 mag pistol that was on the market at about the same time as the AMT.

Exact same man designed both, George Kellgren is the connection between Grendel and Kel-Tec.

Screams tacti-douche. Over on snipershide a couple months ago someone had posted an article written by a man who was living in argentina when it collapsed in the 90s. The gist of it was, semi-autos were the most sought after guns, sigs and glocks ecspecially. It was a real interesting read, Ill search and post if I can find it.

that's FerFal. he has a book out now.

Good luck finding one.

CDNN sales them for $300. I haven't seen one under $450.
Supply & Demand.

I like the Kel-tec SU-16. Chambered in .223, semi auto, accepts AR mags and folds in 1/2. Built in bi-pod

kel-tec_su16a-1.jpg

the LOP on the stock is too long in my opinion, of course, it has to swing over a mag in the magwell in some configurations.

the bipod seems neat on paper, but i'd suggest either forgetting that it's there or switching to the compact forend.

switching the stock wo their pistol grip kit with an M4 stock, and then perhaps switching the stock to a side folder may make it more compart, but then you're at AR prices with out the AR parts compatibility. (other than the mags)

i'd also suggest the "Charlie" version because the front sight is supposedly more robust. it has a slightly shorter sight radius, but it's not a target rifle.

I like my M-6 Scout rifle for that role.

I had this image of it from when my wife needed some pics for school

It's a .22LR over a .410. The stock holds 15 rounds of 22 and 4 more of .410. I have a stock saddle that's meant for rifle cartridges that will carry 8 more .410.

Fun little gun, was my first when I was 12 and it's a blast to teach people on - has notch and peep sights, pretty accurate as well even though you can't adjust the sights. Wrapped some paracord in front of the chamber as a handle/source of cord.

I have one also. Mine is an original Springfield M6 Scout .22/410g. I removed the triggerguard and paracord wrapped the barrels 2/3 length. I must have mine 18 years and will never get rid of it. I tried to buy a CZ made one in SS .22mag/410g but they kept getting sold out before I found one.

There has GOT to be enough demand for these things that somebody would see the benefit of bringing it back. If they made one in .22WMR/..410 (especially if they did one in a blackened stainless) I'd be on it like a fat kid on a Snickers bar...

There is a regular stainless version, not sure if you've seen it. I almost had a second one a few years back.

No matter what guns I've had anytime this one has come out people always say "let me know if you ever want to get rid of that"

I think I might do a nicer cord wrap on mine soon again here. It's not a safe queen by any measure since I used it heavy when I was younger, but a source of 20-30ft of cord is never a bad thing.

Apparently the original models (which included a pistol version as well) could shoot .45 long colt, but I've been warned not to in mine - lack of rifling and apparently the chamber isnt as strong.

Have you tried the 000 buckshot shells? I keep 2 of those and 2 #4's in my buttstock.

Have to step up from lurking... Pretty interesting to read what others think of as "survival" firearms. I'd never suggest that anyone is wrong, but I do like to see different opinions!

Found THIS THREAD on another forum, detailing what I think would make for a very handy rifle, and as someone already said, you're probably going to be stuck using the gun you have with you in a survival situation. I could definitely see myself packing this, or something similar.

I like that folding stock 94!
I have a take down 10-22 I've been working on. Removable barrel like a Marlin Papoose, Car15 style stock. One day I'll get to finish it, work is in the way.

Unfortunately they are not made any more...
