Survival kit food??

i`ll stick with beef jerky when i can finally afford my bug out bag , also own a alcahol stove (a cheaper version of a trangia setup) so i might buy a few freeze dry meals , thinking about making up some trail mix too, doesn`t sound too hard , just get sum like sultanas , almonds , pretzels , etc and mix up in a zip lock bag

I am with Cpl Punishment and use Datrex or Mainstay lifeboat bars. They do hold up well to the Florida heat and don't take up much room.

Everyone thought I was crazy also but all who taste it like it. I was wondering about adding oatmeal also because the mixture does lack fiber. Any tips on how much oatmeal to add?

I didn't use measuring cups for any part of my mixture, but if I had to guess it was between 1/2 and 3/4 cup of oatmeal, but I also made a reduced batch originally, so if you went with a larger batch, I would add more oats.

Thanks, I'll probably try 2 parts peanut butter, and 1 part each of the honey, milk and oats.

Spirulina.
It might be a substitute for eating greens as well, over the short term. it is a supplement.

Looks like I've passed on the obbsession. Bob's Red Mill has an excellent 5 grain cereal that can be added in.

If adding in dry goods though make sure to increase the honey content a bit.

As far as dry oats go, I was wondering if it would make sense to mix those with the honey first to make sure they don't stay so dry.

Hoopster. It makes no difference. Once mixed in the oats will suck moisture into themselves from the mix. That is why one must increase the honey content.

I've gotten my food load tweaked with this stuff to the poin t that I can carry enough food for a two week trip with no problems at all. No fire required. Thge only time I need to use the stove is to boil water for tea.

I do generaly also take along dehydrated refried beans and canned cheese. But one can make it ofn the peanutbutter mix without problems. Unless your allergic to peanut butter or diabetic.

Every finnish survivor has sausages in the backback (one of the most critical requirements for survival knife is to be able to open the packages and whittle sausage sticks). :D

But if it's summer and there's no cold spot to keep the food, then tuna, lot's of tuna. I love tuna... mmmmm. Tuna in oil preferrably.

And chocolate.

In winter especialy HIGH fat or oil content is needed. It gives you the extra fuel to keep warm. The rest of the year high fat or oils allows one to carry more food value calorically with less weight.

I might try substituting syrup or sorghum for the honey since I used all the honey on the first batch.
