Survival Knives...

My survival knife is a 12" kukri.

Link removed, read the site rules.

I'm eager to upgrade, though.

The Condor Crotalus is a solid survival knife. Easy to sharpen, thick enough to pry with, good locking sheath, and under $100.
I've seen that one before...hard to come by. I'm intrigued.

Thanks for a useful response---not many of those on this forum.

To me a survival knife is whatever knife you have when a survival situation occurs (which can't usually be predicted in advance).
So obey Rule #9 !

I agree. We don't get to pick when an emergency occurs. The best survival knife is the one you have on you when things go south.

No IMO, we want to see knives dedicated for survival! Not knives you have on you if shit hits the fan.

In that case I'd be stuck with this:

Not much forum entertainmant in that!

You're welcome to try elsewhere but I think you'll get the same responses if you post in the same manner.

How are those pics coming? You sure have enough time to make new threads and post snark. Do you need help posting pics? There are plenty of guides available. This one has a bunch of info: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/how-do-i-post-pictures-from-a.1394713/

As for taking pictures, I'm hoping you have a smart phone. With those you pretty much just point and shoot. Then, follow the guide above.

Yes , the pics! Still nowhere to be found. And he wonders why people call him a liar. Him and Paratrooper06 are a couple of bullshitting buffoons.

My suggestions:

ESEE 4: I've seen several in your price range, and they make excellent outdoors knives.
Buck: Buck makes several fixed blades of various sizes and models around your price point
TOPS: TOPS makes several fixed blades, though they tend to be 4 inches or under around your price point
Cold Steel: Master Hunter in 3V (just for grins)
Ontario Knives: Ontario has several that are actually below your budget, and are definitely worth checking out.

I can't really speak to specific models too much other than the ESEE, because virtually all of the fixed blades I would (and do) carry in the woods cost quite a bit more. No shame in having a budget, I'd just pick whatever fit my hand the best, and was a good balance of "cuts well" and decent materials. I don't tend to abuse my knives, so blade steel is probably a bit less important than ergos and grind for me.

I thought there was another thread on the forum where they had a photo of an SERE emergency kit and it had an ESEE 4 in it? Somebody trusts them in survival scenarios to have them included.

If things go south, the knife I have on me or in my truck for that day, would be the least of my concerns.

I gotta say, there are a few members here that have made myself and Lasador their reason for living.. and it is pure entertainment. Do you even ā€œknifeā€ anymore or do you just log on looking for posts from Lasador and me?

If you’re gonna act like you know everything then be prepared to take some flak , goofball. There’s a reason why so many people here are not fans of you and your significant other Lasador.

Neither would mine. We all know this, this thread is about what YOUR best choice of survival knife would be. I know mine is not under 100 bucks but, it's one I've got so.. It's my A1.

Got to agree on the entertainment part, but we are all laughing at you guys, not in the good way, and if this is your reason for living, I suggest to get a life, but yeah you guys get me cracking, creds for that! 🤣

Blade Forums never ceases to amaze me. Their members have such a wealth of knowledge about knives.
Since you didn’t seem to care for me sharing the only actual ā€œsurvival knifeā€œ I own, hereā€˜s what I actually carry on my hunting pack. The knife is a Buck Pro-line Zipper that is approaching 25 years old and has processed game of all sizes. It’s the only knife I’ve ever batoned and I used a claw hammer to do it. The hatchet/knife combo is a Gerber I got roughly 13-14 years ago (after the batoning incident) and, try as I might, I can’t seem to kill either one. The hatchet has cleared numerous shooting lanes and limbed multiple trees to help get my climber in place. Iā€˜ve got roughly $100 in the whole setup and wouldn’t trade it for any $100 knife on the earth today…

I assume survival has more zombies.
We should probably do some clarification of our survival scenario.

1. IF there are zombies, are they shamblers or ragers?
2. Do the aliens bleed acid or exert mind control?
3. Are there wraiths or ghosts in the abandoned hospital?
4. Are those demons spilling through the black portal?
5. Do the streaming services and internet work?
6. Are the liquor stores open?

Until we answer some basic questions, we’re just grasping at straws to pick the best survival knife under $100. Nevertheless, I have a hunch it’ll be a Barlow.

The best survival knives ever made were the Buck 184, SAK Swiss Champ and the Leatherman Wave. I would encourage people to carry all three. They could help to extract you from the immediate problem, had enough gadgets to entertain you for hours and enough weight to encourage you to sit a while and calmly think things out.
