In an effort to un-hijack the other thread here is one for the Gear talk.

We are definitely looking at a folding saw, med kits, and other additions to the Gear area. Items that fit with the knives and outdoors while being top quality. Things we use and trust in our lives.

And maybe hats.

What sort of things do you take out on the trails? What items do you rely on every day?

Awesome idea for a thread Ellie. But I'm slightly disappointed in the maybe.

Of course I carry my daily S! Blade. I love the Nalgene suggestion. (And who ever said the nesting cup idea is a genius )
Med kits are a great idea. If molle gear wouldn't be out of the question might I suggest grey ghost gear. A solid american (veteran owned to my knowledge) company with top notch gear. They have a nice slim line med pouch set up among many other things.

a survive zippo would be pretty special. I know other lighters are more practical, but I always carry one...I'd suggest black crackle, matte od green, matte black....because then they'd match my survive knives!

Just throwing out ideas here....sawyer mini water filters and emberlit stoves. The emberlit would likely be one-time buys, but I go through a lot of Sawyer filters. You're not supposed to use them if they are left in freezing temperatures, and I usually forget and leave one or two in packs over the winter, and so have to replace them in the spring.

ETA: Yeah a Survive! Zippo, that'd be cool.

You shouldn't worry about your filter if they haven't had water in them. If they have had water in them and you leave them out id trash em too.

S! zippo would be better then a hat. :D

Edit: OK maybe not better but as good as a hat.

I didn't know that, thank you TT. That'll save me some I'm sure, although most get used at some point in the summer.

The rest of the post I've already blocked from my mind :p :D

I second this. And the Nalgene with nesting cup. And the hats.

I'll shut up now.

I second the sawyer mini water filters. I can't say I've had a lot of experience with others as I've only ever used a sawyer, but it seemed to have one of the best ratings as far as micron filtration and potential lifespan for the price.

Ellie, the other things you mentioned sound great too. Maybe a higher quality emergency blanket/shelter? I've never had to use one, but I've heard the standard ones tear pretty easily

Great thread!

My list include fire steel, folding saw, firebox/emberlit stove, Trangia spirit burner, fuel bottle, Klean Kanteen bottle & insulated bottle (or a titanium one), warbonnet hammock, Victorinox farmer (you can have them customized), sawyer filter, some kind of diamond sharpener, and jerky! Survive! Jerky, now that would be sth. :)

All l great ideas, Ellie.

I'd be really interested in any type of sharpening system that you and Guy endorse. What does Guy use in the field? What would he recommend for use at home (other than sending it back in for sharpening :))? I know this has come up before, but if you were to actually carry certain products out of all that is out there, I'd be interested.

It'll be nice to have a one stop place to shop!
Firesteels with kydex loop would be cool.
Dangler and upgraded sheath options straight off the site from Kiah, Sagewood and Chiral would probably sell like crazy.

I agree. Light My Fire firesteel, kydex attachments like adjustable belt loop and firesteel holder, sharpening kit, survival guide book, water purification and so on.

...and jerky! Survive! Jerky, now that would be sth. :)

Problem is that S!K jerky would be so tough it couldn't be chewed!

Some leather strops would be good to sell too. Spyderco stones work amazingly well for field use

if we are talking survival, water purification and fire starting are the 2 most important imo.
