Survive! Gso-6

I need to keep looking then. I have "original" which to me smells awfully clovey.

Maybe that's what I'm thinking of. It's a lot less than cherry and well worth the sacrifice to have food safe rust protection that doesn't run, turn rancid, or evaporate.

All good points. I'll keep searching, maybe other brands, but until then I guess I'll just suck it up :)

I use USP mineral oil to prevent rust on carbon steel around the house, but the chapstick sounds like a wonderful field solution.

I like things that have more than one function in my kit. I like the Vaseline stuff better because I can put it on a cut, prevent rust, help prevent chapped and cracking lips, and help with fire. I'm sure chap stick would work for all but I have yet to test that.

Sulaco, bleach is a very strong oxidizer. If any of that got under the scales I'd expect to see corrosion.

Sho does!!

Pretty sure the blue one is unscented.

You guys are talking about a squeezy tube and not a twisty tube, right? I've found vasaline in a blue capped "tube" that squeezes out the stuff. I was thinking of a clyndrical tube that twists on the botton. Now........ back on topic!

There seems to be conflicting specs out on the web about the old spec 6, but for new spec 6 it really only seems to be 0.41 in shorter in the blade and have the same 5 in handle as that FF camp knife, but our very own Tinbanger's side by side pics tell a different story. Yes... I'm still fixated on this....

VanDammet, how's your camp knife been treating you?? Thoughts???

That camp looks like a beast! My problem is spending that much on something that beautiful and beating the hell out of it. The S! line up is gorgeous but not as $pricey$ so I'm not as hesitant to take it out and use it as I want too or need too. Not to say it would not withstand the abuse, I personally know I'd have second thoughts about my wallet before I beat it through a piece of seasoned oak full of knots.

I'm not 100% clear on their warranty either. S! Guaranties my knife for the life of my tool, aside from me doing something outrageously ignorant.

Yes it's a squeezy tube lol. The FF is a wider blade and the handle seems skinny for what it is. Also, it offers nothing over what you get with a S!K IMO. Maybe a little better ergonomics but I just had one of my 6's out on a 6 mile loop of a day hike and used it for everything.. Plenty comfortable to carry and use!
