Survive! Gso-6

Damn you MVM! I don't know how I will ever support a knife addiction with these two making so many bad ass blades. I blame you for posting those pictures. Your the reason I really started looking at FF. Now i wanna try all their blades just like S! I'm gonna have to go rob a bank or something to get them all!!! A second or third job just won't do it.

They're nice but I don't like O1 steel anymore and he doesn't do the fancy burlap scales and tapered tangs on his production steel. I heard he'll do a fancy set of scales from time to time but it isn't easy to get a hold of. Doesn't seem worth the money for the steel you're getting and $350 for a production camp is steep for me. I'm sure they're great but for the same money I have a GSO 6 and a decent folder or a GSO 12 and a smile on my face :)

Some wise words have been spoken. I have yet to carry my camp knife on my hip for extended periods of time. It's great in camp, but most of the time I have a 4.5" blade on my hip. I got rid of the 6 because for me it was still too large to carry on my hip.

I've never had a blade in o1 or a2 but I'm curios of the edge capabilities. I'm sure its not as good as the 3v or 20cv but I still want to try. I also thought they made the camp in 3v as well as o1 and a2. But I'm not certain.

I'll bring the ski masks :D

Sorry for my part I bringing this thrend away from the glory of the 6, but I really like this discussion.

The production camp knife is 3v. And yeah if it was $100 cheaper I'd have one in natural micarta right now. With the 12 being the EXACT SAME price it is hard for me to do without having pulled that bank job yet. If it were the custom I'd understand, but the production line? No need for me to keep whining about it, but that cost is the one deterring factor for me.

McVeyMac, do you or did you have a camp knife? I missed it if you already stated this.

FF makes the Camp Knife in O1 with a huge variety of custom handles. They don't take orders, and you just have to wait around to find one you like. They make a mid-tech 3V version with tan or black handles that you can find at a large number of dealers. They occasionally offer a mid-tech 3V blade with a custom handle, but these are less common.

I have a ton of O1 from FF and like it. It holds an edge for a decent amount of time, takes a frighteningly sharp edge, is very tough and sharpens easily. I have limited experience with 3V, but my understanding is that it holds an edge for an insanely long time, takes a very good edge, is one of the toughest steels on the market and is somewhat difficult to sharpen. Also, O1 will rust if you breath on it (almost :)) and 3V, although not stainless, is relatively rust resistant.

Like I said, I am a fan of O1, but am really excited about using more knives in 3V. With the exception of sharpening difficulty (and this might be more internet BS than fact), 3V appears to be the superior steel... others with more experience should weigh in here.

You guys are talking about a squeezy tube and not a twisty tube, right?

How it took me this long to get a picture of the danged Chapstick I carry in my pocket every day is a mystery...

It says "Original" on it but there's no scent I can detect other than that of original Chapstick.

B

So there is a scent with that kind, Brian?

Here's mine. It has a definite scent

Someone should rename this the CAMP KNIFE, CHAPSTICK (and GSO6) THREAD :p

Look who stepped up tonight!

To me, this one has a light vanilla scent. I like it way better than the black tube I had. I'll have to get another for the pack, this one is staying in my pocket.

Sorry for the delay, it has been a crazy couple of weeks. Yes, I have 2 of the hand made Camp knives in O1. I really like these knives a lot. The blade height makes it a fairly hefty blade. For sure a good chopper.

I have no idea. I'm sure you could email them but I bet they would only be guessing too since there is not one for in hand analysis. Unless Guy has a prototype and a sage wood laying around.

I checked their site out today and they have two categories for old and new, I don't think the new ones are designed yet but they seem to be anticipating it and maybe have an inside track on getting the new models quickly....just a guess though!!

We are sending blades over to them as soon as we can, so they can get started on the new models.
