Hopefully this doesn't land me in hot water or break any guidelines.
Not a knife guy and new to posting here so apologises in advance.

I wanted to ask about an update on Survive! Knives. Fell in love with one of their knives and wanted to pick one up for heading overseas and maybe some for friends but I got some red flags from their website.

I took a quick look here and see they got summed up late 2018 and appear to have years of broken promises, lies, failed timelines and so on- but still appear to highly regarded knives.

Their web page looks like they have knives in production and more knives on the way, though you can't even pre-order like the FAQ suggests.

Have these guys turned themselves around and back to putting products out or are they still someone to avoid getting involved with?

On a side note would anyone be able to recommend a knife similar to the design and specs of thier GSO 4.7?

Thanks

Avoid at all costs. Even if it was free if it was free I wouldn't own one of their knives out of principal. They are the worst type of scammers. They still have outstanding orders from what, 5 years ago?

Here's the thread from over in the GB&U section of the forum, a great place to search before doing business with anyone. I linked to the latest post but you can read from the start to get a good picture of how awful they are. They're subforum was shut down here for a reason.

Top of my head...

Benchmade Bushcrafter...

Benchmade Saddle Mountain Skinner...

Freeman Outdoor Gear Model 451 in either 4 inch or 5 inch. That 5 inch in FDE has my name on it....

White River Ursus 45 is just something else....

White River Firecraft FC4 or FC5....

Any number of the fine custom makers on this forum...

I could go on and on. But I won't. There's plenty of awesome stuff out there that isn't fictional.

As to whether Survive! has turned things around the short answer is no.

The long answer is nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Stay away. They're little more than a Ponzi scheme. They've posted endless optimistic updates about how things are turning around and they're going to get all the pre-orders out for years and years. That was their line even before they got kicked off Bladeforums for their deceptive business practices. Even if they made the absolute best knife in the world (they don't), it does you very little good if you never receive it.

I'd be careful asking such Loaded questions with such a low postings count....haha...I know what I First thought.

:P

Thanks for the replies and also taking the question seriously. Couldn't help the low post count.

I was playing a video off their website and my 5 year old commented the video was terrible. Seems like they posted recently to Instagram too.

Shitty for everyone who was duped, I'll take a look at suggestions for similar blades thanks.

If you want to wait 3 years for a factory made knife survive is fine, and the knives are well made. I have a 3.5,4.1 and 4.7.
Instead of the 4.7 find yourself a carothers fk2. The blade length is very close, quality of carothers is better although you are looking at a few more $$.

There are several knives very similar to the survive line on the production side, and a few makers on the exchange here that can make you a knife you will actually get.

Swamp Rat RatManDu is excellent , once you get an edge on one. A little bigger than a 4.7, less ergonomic, but almost indestructible & best warranty out there ( yeah , I’m a fan of that one ).

I chased their knives hard for several years and was very active in their subforum here, so please listen when I say DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY.

I can't recommend buying them on the secondary market either as there was a member here that had a warranty issue and the last I heard he was not made whole some years later.

Check these guys out, they sell direct here on Bladeforums, and there is also a buy/sell/trade thread within their subforum HERE. Good luck.

You had me right up to the less ergonomic part... I don’t have any Sur5ve?! knafs, but the Ratmandu feels like it was made for my hand.

Lol, I can’t believe those hucksters are still drawing suckers. :D Couldn’t give me one for free.

To people like this "one born every minute" isn't a folksy saying; it's the crux of their revenue stream.

Not trying to take the op’s thread hostage, but pics are needed here.

I’d take any Rat over a Survive! - the RMD is probably my favorite blade in the size range this thread is about. INFI or SR101 - it’s definitely something to consider. Sold off most of my knives, not parting with these Rats.

Sent in for warranty work and put back on the endless waiting list. It was questionable heat treating or something. Not abuse or misuse.

The company, maker and reputation is a big reason to buy custom knives.
