Survive! knives

The 10 may not be the most practical piece of steel but I have had a lot of fun using mine to trim tree limbs and clear brush at my house... added plus is it makes you feel pretty bad ass having that thing hanging off your waist. I saw those going for a normal retail price on the bay, wonder what was taking them so long to sell?

I really love the Survive!knives. Good quality, good pricing everything just feels good. Used my GSO 4.1 3V on vacation on a multiple day canoe trip in Sweden. Really like the steel. When keeping a bit oiled it will not stain. I used ballistol for it. I'm waiting on my GSO 3.5. When I have I will make a review :-)

I would like to hear from others that have a GSO-6 and have used it... I have not had a chance to use mine yet it feels so balanced in hand. May just be me but I swear it feels much smaller than it is. Cannot wait to test it out this spring. If it performs as well as I hope it may be my go to blade for our annual BWCA trip. I have always loved 4" knives for outdoor use but there is something about the 6.

I feel the same way about the GSO-6, its like the little big knife. The absence of a choil along with a somewhat compact handle leave a lot of usable cutting edge for its size.

Man, I just couldn't seem to be able to make a post the last few days. Site troubles I guess?

I agree with ceptor781 and would like you to know that we are ALWAYS available for questions or concerns here at SURVIVE! Feel free to drop a line to Info@SurviveKnives.com and you'll get a pretty prompt response from Ellie or Josh. We also have a shop number if you would prefer to speak with a real person. That looks pretty resolved now though.

To answer your question directly though, I have had these GSO-4.1 handles on order with my handle guy since late December, before the GSO-3.5s were even through production grinding. I've had about 700 GSO-4.1s in various materials finished here in my shop for quite awhile, that I need handles for before I can sell them. The GSO-3.5 handles are next on the production schedule, as those blades are now finished. As I stated on FB, my handle guy is just running behind and since I don't have 200k for a cnc mill or a working knowledge of G code programming I need to be patient. He's a cool guy anyway and his work is well worth the wait. In a conspiracy to try to pay my bills, keep people employed and grow the business I do have overlapping production runs.

The GSO-3.5 preorder money was used to buy steel, to help expand my run size a bit. Honestly for the discount I gave on the preorders, we hardly turn any profit at all. I made the salary of a burger flipper last year. Really, it was appalling. The first production runs take longer to produce, the spoilage is always higher from getting machines dialed in the first time and then I go and give a discount in spite of that. I'm not complaining though because I know they'll be awesome and I like sharing my creations with people. Like I said though in a previous post, I won't be doing any more preorder promotions. Although I can understand frustrations about the wait, the stress just isn't worth it.

Oh Man, I see other comments....

The SK line is going to be based on our most popular models, made in S7 steel. Brad up at Peter's heat treat is doing great things with it. Those blades will be Cerakoted to protect the steel and will have more basic options and will be prebuilt, in an attempt to keep costs down as much as possible. The grinding turned out to not be any cheaper but I'm doing what I can. We already have some SK-4 blades done, which are modeled after the GSO-4.1.

I see something about a hawk or axe... Not yet but wait until you see the GSO-12. Holy crap. I got tired of seeing the GSO-10 being referred to as a chopper so I went and designed what I consider a CHOPPER. Don't get me wrong, the GSO-10 can chop but I designed that more as a big knife or one tool option. Both in S-7, there will be a machete variant in 1/8" thick stock and a grinding choil only and a heavy model in 5/16" stock and a full sized finger choil. I can't give any more details until it is about finished with production. We have lots of exciting stuff coming up in the next few months.

As far as the site goes... Ellie is working on verifying all of the available inventory right now. It should be up really soon. The first offerings will be GSO-4.1s, Neckers and GSO-10s. In a few weeks we'll have those GSO-3.5s listed followed closely by the Necker II. After that the GSO5s and GSO-5.1s should be available.

You seem like a patient guy... maybe take a bit more time with your posts and you won't have quite as many grammatical errors.

Survive! new website is up. Nothing much on it other than a tease of a new "budget line" using S7 steel. On Facebook guy stated that GSO 3.5 handles won't be made until after more GSO 4's are done. Wonder why he started on more GSO 4's before getting the 3.5's done? I suppose he can sell more of those knives... I mean, he already has all the money for the 3.5's.

Guy,
I will respond of topic one last time since you quoted me directly. There has certainly been some confusion about what has been going on with the 3.5 run (hence my post you quoted). Sometime in January a poster here contacted you guys directly and was told the GSO-3.5's would be shipping second week in febuary or so... this was before you started posting updates on BF again so no one knew what was going on. I am far from someone to tell you how your business is run but my question stemmed from the fact that there has been several runs of 4.1s since the 3.5 preorder started.
While I won't speak for others that were a bit upset with the delay, for me, it all came from not even getting a update to tell me it was running over the deadline. I would wait a year for one of your knives if that was what we were told it was going to take... My frustrations are history now as long as you poke your head in here or elsewhere to give updates on our knives's status. If you told people it was going to take 8 months and you did it in 6, you are the hero. You say 3 months and take 6, you get what we had in the last thread. Communication is key... at least for this customer.
Finally, now that that is over, I want to thank you for such great knives... there barely goes by a day where I don't walk by my desk and have to at least fiddle around with one of my GSOs for a little bit. They are among my favorites and as I said in a previous post, I can't wait to put my 6 through it's paces. I see great things in the future for your company and I think getting rid of your preorders was a good start. Despite what others may think, I wish you nothing but the best. Cheers.

I have a elmax 5.1. I bought a gso 6 in 3v and I have decided I should have bought another 5.1. I didnt think the lack of choil would be a big deal but comes in handy and really helps balance the longer blades for me. A choil isnt needed at 4 inches but I am learning somewhere between 4.25 and 6.25 it becomes valuable. Ymmv

I have to say I really love mine!!! It has good thick leather an a strong belt loop that stays in place when you pull it out unlike some of the cheap ones.. The Survive/Sagewood Gear dangler worked great also.

That is a nice sheath.

BUT

I have had briars " East Texas"" open the tab when going thru them and steal my knife.
So I will never wear a tab foward again.

Hank,
It is pretty easy to add a choil. If you are not up to it you could contact Guy about sending it in.

I went for the GSO-6 because of the choiless design. Guy managed to put something together for everyone.
I did remove some of the material behind the guard allowing my index finger to move forward about 1/4" toward the blade. This helped a lot with balance and control.

I honestly never thought about adding a choil. I will probably leave it be and trade it or give it my brother in law this summer. I am very happy with my 5.1 and just got a gso 10 to play with. The only reason I bought the 6 because I hadnt held one and wanted to see one.

I have to admit I am intrigued by the idea of adding a choil......

One GSO 4.1 knife (in m390) came all the way to Poland :)
Here it is in a good company:

I love the GSO 4.1. Great knife. I really like how the stonewash finish is smoothed out. The knife slides through any material that is being cut. I use mine daily in the kitchen not because I don't have a kitchen knife, but just for the pure joy of using it. Now I need a survive knife in 3V - probably a gso 6 if I be able to find one...and then number 10...and also 5.1 ... ok, the truth is I want them all - they are great users. Ruged, simple and thus beautiful!

Thats what I thought.
It sounds like you are all set with the 5.1
Its nice to know you can pass along that GSO-6 with no regrets

Luckily Survive knives are holding their value. I can still get what I have in the 6 out of it. If it ends up a gift it will be a great gift.

GSO-12, bring it! Let me know when to send payment and where, good luck with the move by the way. Now just say it with me, GSO-AXE or HAWK, GSO-AXE or HAWK...

Keep it up Guy.

If you want a 6" blade with a choil... buy a 7/7. That is what that blade is.

For me, the best knife/blade/steel/design/ overall quality purchase I made for the entire year of 2013.
I even managed to cut myself with it at 3 a.m. back in July and can attest to the M-390's keen edge.
