Survive Knives

There you have it folks, 2 out of 3 employees have taken their time to address concerns! Is their business model perfect, probably not! Looks to me that they are being honest and forthcoming on the challenges they are facing meeting demand. For me I am definitely leaning towards being a customer!

Sorry crazyjoe I think the main part of the topic of being an undetermined time frame was missed from your quoted statement

SURVIVE! production schedule:

We do not have guaranteed delivery dates for preordered knives. Once the knives start production it typically takes 3-6 months for all of the materials to be produced. Please keep an eye on this Production Schedule to see where specific models are in the production process.

As the models are getting listed for regular ordering, we will be sharpening the knives and then listing them on Mondays. The orders placed each Monday will get built and shipped during that same week. For more information about placing an order with SURVIVE!, check out our FAQ.

The order of production is currently based on the popularity of each model when they were offered in the SURVIVE! Starter campaign, held in March and April. To see the original SURVIVE! Starter information pages, please Click Here!

Here is the current SURVIVE! production schedule:

Necker II: Some Factory 2nds are schduled to be in stock on Feb 15th.
GSO-5.1: Preorders are shipping out and regular ordering is currently scheduled to start Feb 8th.
GSO-4.7: Handles are finishing production. Preorders are scheduled to b....ect.

To wait that long for a (PRODUCTION) knife is ridiculous. I would NEVER pay 100% up front for a knife from anyone, as this is what usually happens. I've personally (owned) six Survive knives, and they are nothing special, and not worth the wait or aggravation. They are a run of the mill production knife, period. I own many custom, and production knives that are a far better choice.

Folks who run their business in this fashion will never see a penny of my money.

Crickets huh? I was outspoken when my knife's deadline was pushed back over and over and over to the tune of about seven months for what was supposed to be production model... but temper tantrum is the farthest thing from the truth. Guy himself owned up to his many business mistakes but of course, as we see now, still has not improved anything other than saying there will be no deadlines. LOL, how convient for him... The reason I "shut up" as you put it, was after I finally received my knife I was done with Survive! knives and their business practices. As far as knives that compare to SK, what replaced mine were Bark Rivers in 3v, Fiddlebacks production line, Lionsteel, Chris Reeve, ZT, ect... YMMV. There are many companies that make great fixed blades in modern super steels that compare in quality and price with SK without all of their hassles. I'm not sure how you were brought up and raised but it's laughable to me that you came on here thinking your opinion and subsequent post were the end-all on the subject. What you and some other SK fan-boys fail to realize is despite what you think, your opinion holds no more weight than anyone else. And that is what I posted... My opinion on Survive! Knives and their business practices. It's my opinion is that SK business practices suck. It's my opinion that the OP deserves to be a little p.o.'d. I'm far from the only one.

I like my GSO 3.5 that I got when they were still back in Pennsylvania, but I would not participate in their current business format. I'm not that patient, to wait an inordinate amount of time. It's way too easy to spend my money elsewhere, and still buy a similar knife from another US manufacturer, that I can get immediate delivery on.

The only one throwing a fit around here is you... there are so many great people on BladeForums that understand there can be differing opinions without having a meltdown. You are not one of them. I came on here to voice my opinion in support of the OP and then you came in with your nonsense about my throwing tantrums, which is not true, and how you'll look forward to laughing at my response. Me bringing up your upbringing has to do with the way you treat people. You come off as a jerk. Why? Because you don't agree with my opinion on your favorite brand of knives? Grow up. Why don't Bark River's offerings in 3v compare with SK? How about Andy Roy's Fiddleback production line? They're an outstanding value without the headache of bankrolling their operation. Being opinionated is your right... so is it everyone else's to voice theirs. Deal with it? Nah... I think I've wasted enough of my time on you lol... Have a great day.

Too many companies rotate from delivering upon payment to taking money upfront... And many, many of those have gone bad. A cursory reading of the GB&U threads will give you a clear illustration of this trend.

Once you are a little behind... It seems to get easier to get further behind.

It appears to be a very difficult business process to sustain. I wish the gentlemen at SK all the best in keeping it on-target.

Lots of great knifemakers on this forum making incredibly innovative and durable knives at reasonable prices. SK is just one in a sea of fish. Fish around and cast your net prudently.

^ These!

Most of the knife maker's on this forum are great people to work with. They're professional (they communicate well), ethical (they don't demand $$$ up front), & they conduct their businesses with dignity & class.

I for one, will never do business & spend my hard earned money, with a company whom treats their customer's in this manner. This type of business model, would not work in any other sector of society...I'll never be able to fathom "why" these self important business types, feel they can treat people (THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS) in this manner!? :thumbdn:

IMO- it wouldn't hurt some of these self proclaimed businessmen, to enroll in a "Introduction To Business 101" class, at their local Community College. However, if they feel this business model works for them- then more power to them.

As for the fanboy's here: is clearly evident, some of you guy's have been drinking way too much Kool Aid. To the OP & Willythekid: maybe it's time that you give a CRK a try. Chris & Anne Reeve, make one of the highest quality folder's on the market, & their customer service, is unsurpassed.

Hey all,

My first post here… thought I’d throw in my 2c

First, I wonder why nobody mentions that the Starter was designed to function as a crowd funding campaign to help out Survive! Some of the people that commented before me, either did not know or did not want to mention that you would get a 5, 10 or 15% (or more) discount on your order, depending on the size of your order. Hope you can access the link to the original Survive! Starter Post: http://surviveknives.com/starter/

Also, it was clearly stated that ‘There is no guaranteed delivery date’ from the get go. Here’s the link to the Survive! Starter terms and conditions that everyone should have read before ordering!

Oh, just to mention that I am waiting patiently for my three orders (starter, pre-order, pre-sale)

Thanks a lot and too all a good weekend!

Your knife business is going well?

I'm pretty late to this party and I was ready with some comments that are better left untyped. Now that SURVIVE! has gotten involved in this thread all my killer points don't seem that important anymore.

KELAMA, since the first few pages, the tone of this thread has changed and it seems like you're just adding fuel to the fire. The absolutely uninvolved OP will get his knife soon and I hope he's happy with it. He now has a taste of doing business with SURVIVE! and like the rest of us he can take it or leave it. If you were "wronged" in the past or don't have money tied up with SURVIVE! then do like others have already suggested and spend your money elsewhere. You won't be missed and hopefully you'll find a knife and company that is more aligned with your beliefs.

CataD, you picked a heck of a thread for your first post. I hope you stick around and get a chance to see us in a better light.

I did expect some backlack on me instead of the points brought up. Like Survive's first run of knives, there are things to learn when having your own knives made. The improvements from gen 1 to 2 alphas were subtle but an important step forward. Any further runs will also seem improvements, much like where the 5.1 is currently from where they started.

The biggest difference in our business strategy is we don't need other peoples money to make our knives. We also tell people where they are made. We don't need to hide that. If Guy told you his knives were 95% done by another machinist, he might not be able to string people along so much. Making knives is hard, finding someone to make your knives is even harder.

Eric, Just shut your moufff and I hope you keep selling those burnt edges. Any plans on making more Survive! knives copy???

You tried to AMBUSH Guy but he'll SURVIVE!

It's a 3 person operation and each person has a certain duty to keep everything running. These people actually have lives outside of making knives.
Machines go down, materials get delayed and stuff sometimes happens just like it does in our regular lives. Be patient because your knife will show up eventually and I bet you'll like it.
Understood, having a website and posting a brief update is always preferable than the alternative. I'm sure you would agree, a FAQ section on any retail website is always a good idea.

As for you willythekid, I'm fairly new here but I remember reading stuff you posted about maybe a year or so ago about having to wait for a 3.5 or 4.1. I remember you throwing a temper tantrum because of this same issue but you seemed to shut up once your knife showed up.
I'd really like to see a list of these knives that you can get quickly that compare to a Survive! knife's super steel, price and level of quality.
I'll subscribe to this thread just so I can laugh at your response but I'm pretty sure it'll be nothing but crickets here.

If you are posting only to argue and get a rise out of people, I suggest you rethink your motivation. If deadlines come and go, and no communications are replied to, no updates are given, etc people have every right to be concerned. I don't care if it is a 3 person operation or a 300 employee corporation. I hope you come to your senses and see what is unfolding here. You are acting as if you have some vested interest in this somehow. Much more than someone with a profound respect for small business owners.

You just basically proved my point. You kept throwing a fit for months until your knife showed up and then you were quiet.
Nice list of comparably priced knives by the way. They're all outstanding companies but their prices don't compare.
Bringing up how I was brought up... Really?? I was brought up in a military/police family that busted their ass and didn't cry over spilled milk. Being opinionated is my damn right and I'll open my mouth whenever the hell I want to. Deal with it.

You can be as opinionated as you like, but where that occurs is a different matter. There are rules here new guy, and you will abide by them. This is a privately owned forum, and you actually have no 1st amendment rights here. Deal with that...

This specific forum is not for pissing matches, if that is what you all want to do, take it over to Whine and Cheese and go knock yourselves out. As far as I can see there is only trolling, insults, and dumbassery going on here.
