Survive! Skills, Tips, Tricks and How to's

All great options, thanks! Some I had not even found or considered. I'm going to check out all these suggestions and report back. I had looked at the Maxpedition typhoon II because of the size, but the overall style didn't exactly grab me. The dust by Direct Action Gear is near the top of my list.

I don't see much not to like about that pack bud. If you get one I'd like to hear what you think. Thanks for the link.

I've been looking at backpacks a lot lately. It's hard to find a small size for just a day or afternoon's worth of essentials with backpack straps. If I'm going by myself I wouldn't be too far from civilization and I'd really be making it a short trip if I'm with the family and most of what I'd need to pack would be stuff for my girls.

I love the Camelbak Miltac hawg for a smaller pack and I like the Specops Brand Recon Ruck for a larger alice style pack. I use it for my duck hunting pack. I have also been looking at the SORD Day pack recently.

Nice choice bud!
I geeked out on packs last year and almost pulled the trigger on one of their larger packs. If you want a great 1 day pack, the Tarahumara is amazing. I'm a big fan of molle attachments so I chose to stick with the 5.11 Rush 24 and the Maxpedition Falcon II.
If you get a Direct Action pack, please keep us posted. I've read great things on them.

I am really glad everyone seems to have something different either in hand or in mind, variety is great, would love to see how people load them out (maybe a different thread?) obviously with a GSO as the cherry on top!

If you are looking for more of a "sack" and not a pack, you might look at the kifaru e and e. It's essentially a pouch made into a daypack, so it lacks alot of the organization of most bags. However, you can buy organizers that go in or on it, or take advantage of the extra space in the bag. They are for sure bomb proof and the selling point for me is you can cinch em down to almost nothing for edc. I guess it really depends on your needs. Does anyone know if that Direct action pack is made in the US? It actually looks really great:thumbup:

If we are tossing out wishlist bags, I have always been a bit curious about the mystery ranch ASAP bag as well... very very pricey with some very positive (and a few mixed) reviews

I just heard about this brand a few weeks ago, but all my favorite youtubers seemed to be really impressed with it.

The camelbak does look good, but I'd probably use a couple Nalgene's instead of a bladder.

You and ni1s made a solid suggestion with the tarahumara, but I don't think it is tacticool enough for me :D
The rush 12 is also on my short list!

Originally it's a Polish company, so I doubt it.
Some guy on amazon gave it a low rating because it was "made in asia" or with "Asian materials", but I haven't been able to find anything definitive on where it is made.

EDIT: I forgot to say the MSM adapt pack looks really promising. Between the size and features there isn't really anything I don't like.

I just picked up a kelty redwing 32 in a coyote brown. I love it so far, it has plenty of well placed pockets. It has water bottle pockets on both sides and pouches above them. The pouches aren't attached so I can fit my small forest axe behind the pocket and into the bottle holder. I have had the mystery ranch 3 day assault, and sweet pea, and I like this one better for small loads like I usually have with a day pack.

Thank you, OBX and Tinbanger!

The Drake looks really good, I'm just looking for something 20 liters or less.

Kelty wasn't something I had on my radar, maybe I should check out less "serious operator" gear and brands.

Haha, I'm more of a casual operator. A lot of other packs just don't have a good pocket layout. The kelty is light and I'm sure it's strong enough for what I need. Also doesn't look "serious operator"

Even the people of San fransisco didn't think anything of it.

Nice! I'll have to look at their line of packs.

The thing I like about the dust is when people see me on the trail they'll think "he doesn't exactly look like a hardcore operator........ but he could be" :D

Tinbanger... Is that you in the pic?

Needle... When we say "operator" are we talking a phone operator, surgeon or crane operator??!! Or are we talking Meal Team 6

No that's my wife, she messed up on the hotel reservation so we had to move hotels on the middle of our trip. Haha

Just to confirm it, I emailed direct action and found out their packs are made in vietnam, with strict quality control and a complete guarantee/warrantee if you're unhappy. Plus they responded to my email in less than 24 hours:thumbup:
