SURVIVOR! Try stick

Way to bring back a wayward 4.1!!! I think it's still my favorite survive knife. Classic in design. Now I need to get in on this try stick business.

Yeah it's great to have it back and I do agree that it's a classic! I still have a favorites battle between the 3.5 and 4.1 because they're both so damn good.

Did they share any tidbits about when bigger numbers of preorder 4.7's will be shipping?

Nothing except to say that I should be getting my 3V 4.7 soon. I didn't press him. But he did resharpen a TON of my GSOs and I am pretty psyched to get them back.

Oh so you're the one who's holding everything up :D

Hopefully, everything continues to run smoothly in the shop!

LMAO!!!! That actually that might be true!! He's sending back 11 of my GSOs. I'll post a picture when I get them back next week.

You have such a great GSO family. Looking forward to a pic when they're all back from the spa.

^^^^^ Agreed!

Tell me again what type of wood you use?

Could you tell a big difference in fine carving between a 4.1 and 5?

You do some nice work Std!

Thanks bud!

This is from a Fruitless Mulberry tree. I cut a bunch of good sized pieces off of my parents tree and let them dry for a month. I noticed that branches from older trees work better because there are more growth rings. It's more dense, but easier to work with. Plus it seems to flex a little.
The 4.1 is easier for me only because it's a bit lighter and compact. The 5 is no slouch in any way though!

That's an old photo.
Just can't imagine what will happen if you get your hands on a 4.5 bushcrafter?

Haha I'm thinking about getting one still! My friend Josh has one ordered so I'll have to try his out first.
I'm thinking the 2.7 or 3.5 will be great for this kind of work since I prefer small blades.

Here's a photo about what I was talking about in the previous post. I think you'll be blown away by the results if you switch from that tough kiln dried pine over to some naturally round material.

I agree but I still don't think my work will be as clean as yours....but I will aspire to it....especially now that I got a BRAND NEW 4.7 pre-production sample!

Lucky!!! What are you first impressions??

Just wait till you try out some softer material bud! Your technique is spot on so you'll do well. I had no idea what I was doing when I started doing these a couple years ago and I've messed up more than I've succeeded.

Standard be like "To be honest, if I can do these, anyone can with a bit of patience and time. The knife really does all of the work."

Wow! Just wow! That takes tons of talent. That is beyond me. The only thing I can do now is aspire to do what Standard has done.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

The verdict is still out but the 4.7 could be my new favorite knife, (which is the new 5.1 with the old 5.1 a close second) because of the ergonomics of the handles the height of the blade and the overall balance of the knife. I also really love the new treatment that Guy's been using on the scales. The all new design, contouring and micarta treatment makes a very impressive knife.

Holy crap that's amazing!!! Now that's some talent right there!!
As far as talent for me, it's more trial and error until I get it right. 25 years ago I couldn't swing a hammer worth a damn, now I can sink nails with both hands and I'm a lefty. A lot of practice and the occasional torn off thumb nail made me better.
