Swedish Hults Burk surplus Boys axes.

Anyone ever get one of these without a manufacturer mark? I just gone one yesterday and the only marking I can find is the crown stamping

When I ordered my 2, I got one HB and one with only the crown stamp.

I gave away the no name, which was brand new aside from a tiny rust. The HB has been stacked with a bunch of other projects for a long time, with the head half way off. That epoxy is brutal. I was trying to salvage the handle, but I'm not sure I'll succeed.

Ok, thank you for letting me know. Actually thank you for all that chimed in. I appreciate it. I am a little disappointed it doesn't even have a mark, especially since the bit is a bit chipped. Oh well. It will make a project which is what I was after. Hopefully it performs ok.

After I worked over my no name and before giving it away, I did use it some. It was definitely a good axe. Good steel, and it was pretty thick and chunky which allowed me to shape the bit as I saw fit. I hope you enjoy yours.

Well, that makes me happy to hear. I will try to post pics after I get it done in the next week or two. Thank you M3mphis

You guys are killing me. I just ordered three. What the heck am I going to do with three of these?

Just kidding I have plans for all of them depending on what I get. ;)

I bought two of these and they arrived yesterday. One is used and usable like it is. The other had a broken handle and was covered in rust. I took the worst of the two and media blasted it. It is marked E B on one side with the weight on the other. edit:on closer inspection it is H B

I'm not much a hanging handles, but I think it came out alright. I still need to sharpen and polish the edge. It's just going to be a user, and I like the weight. I think it would be a nice little camp axe to throw in the truck.

That looks great. I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Do you have any pictures of the other axe you got?

Longun,

I have a twin to that - but the handle was loose - in fact as I wiggled it in a vice - the wedge popped out. We scored BIG!

It is unused - so I am fully re-hanging it - with the old handle. I bought two - the other is one of those unknown KB42's - it was unused as well. I have taken nearly 60 pics of the process I am using to redo both of them. I will post a separate thread.

Well, mine arrived the other day. I will say, those that I've seen in this thread so far are lucky. Mine was definitely a user. Maybe even an abuser. The head is loose, as you can see in one of the pics, but it moves no further than that. No worries though, I'll get it cleaned up and put it to use.

Today was the first chance I've had to get pics. I took a few before cleaning it up, with just a few strokes with a wire brush to see the markings.

After those pics, I put some stripper on the head to get the majority of the paint off, then used a bronze wire brush in a drill to get the rest of the crud off. I found more markings on the other side.

Can anyone help with those markings? Those are all that I can find. It's obvious the poll has had some mushrooming ground off before. I will knock the little bit of mushrooming acquired since off again. I may sand the head down some. I will most likely get some new wood for it, give it an edge, and give it to my wife for her landscaping "whacker".

Now, I need to wait until they have more in stock to try my luck with the axe lottery again.

The three crowns marking is standard marking for swedish military gear.
"Tillverkning" means something like production/manufacture so manufacturer's name was probably on top of that but from the pics it seems like it was erased while grounding away the mushroom.

Mine was barely used when it arrived, tight epoxied handle and original edge.Just dailed it in to my likeing! lightly sanded handle and head, blued head and gave a good edge, oiled handle and an orange overstrike so I wouldn't lose it in the brush.

Deoje, I do not have any pictures of my second axe. The Hults Burk (Bruk?) in the pictures above was pretty rough when I received it. The second axe is mark KB42 and I would describe it a moderately used. The handle is tight and it is still coated with what I would call 85% green paint. On the handle under the green paint I can make out three strips painted around the handle.
When I line up the eyes on the Hults Burk (Bruk?) and the KB42 there is a marked difference. The KB42 has a poll that is about 3/8 inch longer than the HB. And the bit of the KB42 is about 5/8 inch shorter. On the scales the complete axes weigh nearly identical at 3 lbs 11 oz.

Cegga,

That is awesome! Was this a stamp that you used in a previous job or just something you ended up collecting?

Hey
looking a bit in old boxes today and found the old stamp to this axes
Cegga

That's cool. Where did you find the original factory stamp for those axes?

I looked back at the first images posted in this thread and it sure looks like the same pattern.
