Sword #000002 Verteidiger (Scabbard Done)

It's mostly done other than peening and etching/finishing pommel. The grip is composed of white oak scales with leather risers and deer rawhide. The lower portion is commercial fishing twine used by the local Lake Superior gill net fishermen... extremely abrasion resistant. All components metal components are wedged into place with a little JB Weld to keep moisture out and the oak grip is epoxied. The final peening will be light so as to not overstress the oak grip. Anyway... these are not the final pictures. I'm awaiting good light.. and the little cosmetic issues that eat at you.

But here it is. The name was selected by my customer and means 'defender' in German. It's hard to come up with sword names that haven't been taken by Albion.. and he wanted something to remind him of the idea started with my last sword Errant.

Wonderful. The grin says it all.

Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Enjoy the sword (for the brief time you have it :().. Can't wait to see #3.

That is a piece of work! Congratulations. Were you a gladiator in another life? You look like you could punch though a brick wall. Maybe it's all the hammering. :)

Looks great Scott, thanks for taking us along on the trip! Are you going to the Badger show? Hoping to make it myself.

Thanks a lot folks.... Despite the fact it's almost 1 pound heavier than my last sword.. with the point of balance situated correctly... it still feels wonderful to hold. But you can tell the minute you pick it up that this one is designed for thrusting.

I will post formal pictures later... because I do have more work on the pommel. I was just excited to show it once all the pieces came together. I learned last time to work on the pommel last in order to get it to flow with the rest of the blade.

Anyway... I'm excited that another one came together.

That turned out really nice. Makes me want to build another one soon.
I love the rawhide and the raised ridges in the grip.
Darcy:)

Very nice Scott. Thanks for taking the time to show this as it progressed. Also wish I could hold this one like the last one in Little Rock.

Chris

Thanks folks. It really will break my heart to ship this one. It feels so nice drawing it from that scabbard. And my son loves to have me marching around the house wearing it. This type of suspension system is so simple, so effective. I really look forward to incorporate this idea into 'bush swords' and other baldric type sheaths.
