I miss Sarge, and think of him often, Though my correspondence with him was limited to the Cantina. I don't kniow if I could fairly refer to him as a friend (though I would certainly like to) but he is a man I have tremendous admiration for, and truly enjoyed his presence here on the forums.
I learned alot from him, both in skill and attitude. It aint no secret that he and Andy were the ones that taught me to make a knife, (whether thay knew it or not) and got me started. Not that I've ever progressed to any major level, but it feels darn good to make my own darn effective cutting tools for usually $2-$5 dollars. Whenever people in other posts ask me about making "file knives" (more appropriately referred to as po' boys)

I always tell them the basic idea, and then give credit to Sarge, and tell them to search the Cantina for his threads. I get a feeling that few do, cause they always thank ME profusely for the knowledge being passed on from Sarge. Heck, I aint no genius, I was just a couple spots ahead of them in Sarge's line of knowledge.
Just a short while before he left, He gave me a Nessmuk. a very sharp knife for REAL wilderness ventures that has the only bone handle I have ever loved. He gave it to me the same week I had ordered a Bark River Nessy. The soulless Bark River has never been used, and is seeking a new home. Sarge's Nessmuk will probably be heading out on a few bear and moose hunting trips this year, especially if I use my muzzleloader. It just seems somehow the....appropriate thing to do.
My favorite thread with him....gosh....It's hard to say, really....but I think it's this one:

The only reason this one comes up is because it's the only thread where It ALMOST feels like I got to contribute something to him instead of constantly taking.
Yeah, I know he aint dead, I imagine he's pretty well satisfied, especially being he was always one of the one's that seemed smart enough to realize that happiness comes from within, rather than the car lot, real estate market, or other material pursuits. I don't know if I really would even want to see him back, as long as he's enjoying what he's doing, but...I still darn sure miss 'im.
