Sylvrfalcn OOO Sylvrfalcn

I asked Sarge about one of his file knives, and he offered to send it to me, free of charge.
I wanted to cover the expensive international shipping at least, and realized too late he was a man of very strong principles; he refused to "sell" his knife.
End of story.

However, no hard feelings on my side, just a lesson learned. :foot:

He did inspire me to try making a knife myself, and once I got a belt-grinder, the attached knife was the first result.
Not looking very Sarge-like, but it works. And that's the point, isn't it?

Great lookin' knife, Keno.

The beauty is in the utility. I like that one very much:)

Thanks. It's much simpler than it looks, and more crude, too. Good for poking holes in things, too. The original design had the swedge sharpened, but the tip ended up being too fine and pointy and snapped off when I did some "tests". Duh.

Keno your knife reminds me a mini seax...yet tactical.

Seaxtical?:confused::D

Saxical I'd say...there have to be more Sarge stories, right?

Too bad the search is down; I cannot find the thread I am looking for; but here's one of Sarge's pics, with three of his knives:

(I hope he doesnt mind I safed this photo...)

He has skill, and a great intuition for blade design, I think. I love the top one, great stabbing object ;)

Awesome Keno. Thanks for posting that.

Keno if you make the clip a little more subdued on the bottom one and give it an over all length of about 5.75", you have my, er...excuse me, my WIFE'S little Sarge-made knife:D

Just a heads up for folks having an issue with the search feature(including me). You can use Google to search BF. Here's how you would search for post on falcatas on Google.

falcata site:bladeforums.com

The key is to use site:bladeforums.com at the end of the search string and then it will only search BF threads.

Steve, as I said - it is a pic from Sarge, those are knives he made, not me. He posted the pic a long time ago, but since search is down I cannot find the thread. Luckily back then I saved *his* pic.

Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding...;)

I couldnt make those kind of knives anyway. Different style; but he clearly was /the/ inspiration to try it myself. Much like Andy I guess, 'cept Andy is good at what he's doing :D

This is a great story from Sarge. He's commenting on a knife that he picked up in Afghanistan that he gave to Rusty.

Guys,
Kind of painful for me to look at this collection of blades, for obvious reasons. Still, I'm here to confirm that the large, white handled, Khyber knife in the very first picture is, indeed, the one I gave Rusty. I could never forget that knife, picked it up in a dusty little village in Afghanistan. It's the genuine article, well over a hundred years old. The blade is hand forged, of excellent quality, and well patinated. The grips are definitely not ivory, they are bone, most likely from the leg of a camel. The bolsters are iron/steel with some decorative work. The Afghan shop keeper I purchased it from nearly made me drop it by loudly proclaiming the blade to be "poisonous". With the help of an interpretor, I came to understand that it was sincerely believed that the blade was imbued by the smith with a special magic, the extent of which is that any wound inflicted on an enemy by this blade would never heal, and most likely end in death (how a knife can tell friend from foe, I suppose, is part of the magic). I've often wondered if I had the blade examined by an expert, just what the inscription on it would reveal.
Whoever snagged this knife, congratulations, you've got one with "stories". That big knife was quite obviously created to be a weapon, and the imagination runs wild pondering the action it's most likely seen. Take care of it, it still has things to teach future generations about man's violent past.

Too many pics for this thread, but Sarge made a bunch of knives for me to sell to help out Ram. You can see some of them at http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v163/sferguson53/Public/Sarge/

I have three of his knives and carry one of them frequently.

all of these things he left and this forum are like a set of puzzles and surprises and each of you guys are a piece of a wonderful collage that changes daily. thanks to you all. they all help the grieving process for me and the family.

BTT. OK Khukuri fanatics. How about we finalize this contest and give away a knife??

Who do you guys think should get the knife?

It's a tough call:confused: We have a lot of great stories there with a lot of "don't enter me into the contest but...";) I reread the thread, and I'm going to let it marinate tonight.

Sarge taught me alot, though I doubt I ever said anything about it.
I miss his knowledge, and his willingness to share it.
Sarge, may the roads of life treat you well!

Mark

I must be feeling my almost 71 years. I never caught on to the contest, just the remembrance of Sarge. I don't visit as often as I used to but leave me out of the contest. I have enough knives for a lifetime. I still love the eye candy, tho, so keep it coming.
I was looking at some of mine yesterday. Normally, I tagged them, but a few I did not. I'm going to have to do a search, if possible and see if I can identify them. DAG

Thanks Ryan.

Fiddleback...I'm not in the running.

Greg is my friend. Happy to share anything I can about him.

In my mind it is down to RWS and Tom Fetter.

That said, the posters in this thread are a list of quality guys to be sure. I'm glad to call you guys my friends.

So, anybody got a favorite out of the two?
