Tacticals Made by Us for Special OPS Forces

what kind of time frame are you guys running on with this?
I'd like to help out but I have to get some money together and order some thicker/different steel.
what would be the ideal dimensions for these blades? I was thinking of getting some 3/16 or 1/4" 1095 or something along those lines, making a 6-7 1/2" blade...
let me know if there are time restrictions.
Thanks, Steve.

Steve, I don't think there's a set time frame. Whenever you can get one together the guys would appreciate it. I made mine out of 3/16" thick D2 with a 1 1/2" wide blade. It's 11 1/2" overall with a 5" handle, 6 1/2" blade and a 6" cutting edge.

that's about the dimensions I was thinking, great minds eh lol
I'm just getting some ideas down on paper right now.
would it be better to go with something a little more stainless?
or maybe a coating on the carbon.
we'll see if I can get enough money to order some steel then I'll put in my word for sure or not, it sucks being broke, but that's how she goes!
all I have on hand is 1/8" O1 and 440C, I think they would need something thicker to handle some abuse ie. battoning wood!!!!!! hahahahahahah :footinmou :barf:
Steve

I know what you mean about the broke part. There's nothing wrong with O-1 or 5160. TKS has both and you could just order a foot. The 5160 is only available in 1/4 x 1 3/4" but at 6.95 a ft, you can't get much cheaper then that. :D
Scott

yes I'll have to look around, I was looking at admiral and you have to buy a whole 22' bar of the 5160 from them....
tks sounds like a better route to me!
Steve

Kelly Cupples has great prices on blade steel, and if you order $25 worth shipping is free. I just got a steel pricing list from him, email me and i will forward it to you, and it has his phone number so you can talk to him also.

Here is mine so far. In the center is Dans civilian version with about a 4.75" blade.
Bottom blade is my favorite camp knife....round 2.

Looking great guys! I'll be following this thread to the end and with a lot of luck I will be able to contribute one day soon! Keep up the great work and God Bless our Troops!

Just received this email from our SF OPS:
-------------------

Roger

We just got the first shipment of 7 knives and
everyone is blown away...we have decided to wait until
the rest come in to divide them up so the guys can
choose the one best fitted to them.

The one ear marked for the medic is in his hands now
and he would like to send a e-mail/write to the sender
but there was no address included with that one. If
you can let us know who sent it he will write him
ASAP.

All of the blades are perfect! The guys on the
detachment especially like that each knife is
different and unique...that makes each one special.

Roger I am humbled and honored to know the Americans
who sent these knives. I know I have said it before
but the true heros in this world are the men and women
who put others ahead of themselves. This act of
giving, something to someone they don't even know, 3
thousand miles away..is touching.

I won't lie we've had our up's and down's here.
Sometimes we loose focus on what this war is being
fought for and it's hard with all the negitive media
and the feeling that any day now some politician could
decide to pull us out and all the effort, all the good
guys who gave their lives, all the sacrifice from
everyone would be for nothing..

...and then something like this happens..and a little
bit of faith IS restored..it s a confirmation that
there are those out there, all over the world who
appreciate and more important..who UNDERSTAND just
what this is all about..

I mourn the price we pay, for all those lost..as much
as everyone else, I was closer to many of them than a
brother. But I know that what they died for is what
they were fighting for, what they belived in... and
everyone of them..everyone to a man would have been
proud to carry one of these knives...not to take lives
but to save them...

I more than belive that Roger.. I know that to be
fact.

I am getting too emotional now so I will cut this
short and write more later..

Thanks again and God Bless you and yours..

What timing Roger. As I read this the UPS man just delivered the blade I'm working on for this special project. After waiting and extra week and a half, I can finally get this bad boy finished. It will be done by weeks end and on it's way to you.
Scott

You'll have mine in about 3 weeks Roger.......The fact that we bring hope to those who have there necks on the line is purpose enough. They need all the support this country can muster up.
I am PROUD.
