Tacticals Made by Us for Special OPS Forces

What he said. Thanks Dan.
Well, I have the blade ground, heat treated and taken up to 400 on the grinder. Ihave the ricasso filed to accept the guard. I just need to make the guard now. Got my micarta in yesterday. Took a chance and angled the guard forward to match my forward leaning grind line. Just realized that this will make it incompatable with factory made tactical sheaths. Harrumph :grumpy: Guess I'll have to do the sheath myself.
I saw where someone used nail polish masking and multiple etches to get a cool differentiated etch pattern. Thinking of trying something like that in a camoflage pattern. Will have to experiment on something else first. I'll let you know.
Like the others, I too wish I could get this out faster, but the day job is long and the weekends short.....

Dan thank you so much for posting that. Reading that makes me feel that much better for doing this. I can't even begin to express the appreciation I have for our brave men and women in uniform protecting us back here. I said it before and I'll say it again, they are truely AMERICAN HEROS.

I forgot to mention, I handled Larry's knife he posted. Very nice balanced piece. I would not want to be at the point end of it.

Thanks Dan, I personaly feel too many have forgotten too much.

The thing about freedom is it's never free.

Awhile back I heard a man say: "Freedom is never free and sometimes the bill gets delivered to you." I am thankful that there are always those who are willing to pay the bill.

Just had a great 1 1/2 - 2 hour talk with Bruce Evans. Very enjoyable for me and educational.

Hey Roger,Didn't realize we talked so long  Donna was wondering if I talked your ear off :D

I asked Roger a question and I feel I should suggest this.

Not only do the Spec Ops guys use knives but to anyone out there that forges Tomahawks they use them also,Maybe a few of use could make a few and send them over also  We could ask if they would like them if we made some, that is if anyone may be interested....If so lets let Roger know and he can find out if they would be able to use them or like them....
Just a idea for another way we could help our men overseas out.

I figured on making one of those too. Working on some designes. Was going to use one of the pieces we were going to drift at Marks this weekend but the weather changed that. It's on the list after some orders.

heres what I have done so far....

OH YES. That's what I be talk'n bout.

Too bad you didn't make it out of O1 :D :D

I found a piece of O1 thick enough and that is what I will be using. Right now I am wrestling with whether to sabre grind or flat. I will be browning it and if I Scandi grind it the brown will dissappear when resharpened. I guess flat is the way I should go on this one. Mine will be my new Hoodoo Voodoo pattern. I might extend the blade a little bit - don't know yet.

The knife is longer than it looks in this picture! I am liking this design myself!
I think I am going to make a kydex sheath for it. I like the multi carry options I can add easily with a tecklok.
I like the hoodoo Roger :p

Nowicki,If it is of any help.I was asked a couple years ago to submit a hawk to be tested for the Spec Ops guys,I decli9ned as I couldn't see myself making a multitude of hawks at one time,Might have been a mistake now.But one thing they were looking for was a spike that could penetrate Kevlar or 1/8 inch plate steel without any damage. You might consider this when designing your hawk.

Thanks Roger for thinking of our troops . This was an interesting thread. Lots of enthusiasm and quite a few questions. I learned knifemaking at the Randall knife shop in Orlando FL. "Bo" Randall was one of the primary leaders in hand made "fighting knives" since WWII. The basic parameters for a fighting knife as far as I know are 3/16 - 1/4 stock, blade length that will sever a major artery when inserted into a body (6"- 7"), materials that will at least last till the end of the campaign, and a sheath that will keep the knife attached to the soldier and will last as long as the campaign/war. In other words the knives that the Afghans have been making for hundreds of years will work fine. We must remember what the what the mission of SF is, to win the hearts and minds of the indigenous population. I am more than happy to produce the "ultimate indestructible knife" but perhaps the SF in Afghanistan would be better served by seeking out some local craftsmen to produce their "battle knives". Believe me, the Afghans know a h*** of a lot more about knife fighting than most Americans.
At any rate, I've got some D2 out in the shed and would be happy to make a blade that would not snap off when stuck into the throat of a terroist. As far as the sheath goes as long as the soldier doesn't lose his knife I don't think it matters what the sheath is made of, as long as it will keep the blade in place and the soldier will be able to get it when needed.

I already had a spike in mind. Did they have a specified length for the spike?

Not that I can remeber,I would just go with a standard length that wouldn't be in the way when carried.

Roger, I should have the knife finished by the weekend (or over the weekend depending on outside influence) so could you send me the address to ship it to?

Thanks,
Tony

Roger, I thought I'd update you on the progress of my knife. I got set back a week and should have the blade back by this Friday. I figure it will be completed by the middle of next week. If you would email me an address where to send it to. I will get it in the mail when it's completed. Having the Spec Ops sheath saves me a couple of days since I don't have to make a sheath.

Well...I had to HT again. Tripple tempered and ready for the next phase!! :D
Going to try kydex for mine.
