Tacticals Made by Us for Special OPS Forces

Thanks guys. :) Brian I've always been partial to Micarta. A lot of makers don't like it but to me there's nothing better than canvas Micarta for a working knife. And this handle has a nice story to go with it. ;)

WOW Dave that is one nice looking knife, i really like the looks of that handle material, loogs good and grippy :D

Well here it is ready for a sheath. Its 5160 (stock removal, it was -18 the day I started on it and I just couldn't bring myself ot go outside to the forge  ), flat ground, diff hardened, nickle silver guard, green canvas micarta scales. The blade is finished to 400 grit and blued with birchwood Casey Super Blue (4 coats). Thinking of adding a thong hole, not sure yet. Whaddya think?

Wonderful!! Great stuff.

Brian asked me to hold off on sending knives until more come in for photos. I will.

Dave, where'd you get that micarta? It looks like wood grain. I like. I'd like knowing the source. Thanks.

RL

That's a great knife Ed! I like that handle and the overall aggresiveness of the whole package. Nice going.

Roger, some guy gave me that Micarta years ago. I think the woodgrain effect is just epoxy that worked its way into the canvas threads...

Hey RL - I guarantee that micart Dave used is the same stuff I got from McMaster Carr. Look under Garolite. Its the CE type. How much do you need? I have some that you can have if you need one set of scales. I am going to use it for my smaller one.

Dave is the mil number this one? MIL-I-24768

Well, I finally got a blade that I'm happy with for this, after several attempts using high tech stainless alloys, and ending up making some very nice kitchen knives (my wife is happy) I decided to stick with what I know.

The damascus is forged form 1095 W-1 l-6 and a little wrought iron

I need to add the scales, sharpen it and make a sheath.

The pattern wasn't exactly what I wanted, but you can see the ghost face with a little imagination.

Your idea is great. Don't stick to a single pattern. They will swap among themselves for the knife that they like. The key here is that youallll are thinking about them and the dangerous BS they have to do. I fill a multitude of orders being co-located next to my old unit the 5th SFG(A). Every rotation brings new challanges. mostly on "I need it tomorrow we're redeploying".
Its a great place to get an honest feedback on how your knives preform. Just ask them for their comments and evaluation.
I personnally thank everyone . Salute

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll try to have this one done quickly now that I've got it HT'd and ready to finish.

The pattern I was talking about was the damascus pattern, but I agree, their is probably a use for most blade types, I just wasn't happy with the results of my experimentation with the various stainless alloys on any blade over about 4 inches.

Tony, that pattern is neat looking. It looks like the top half of a skull. You know from the eyes up. Can't wait to see the finished piece.

Well, I've been following this thread since the beginning, and I have to say it's great to see a long thread that doesn't consist of who is better/worse/(fill in name, knife company etc)!! :)

Now that Roger has my contribution (sans sheath- I'm no good there!) I just want to thank everyone here for the knowledge they've shared which has enabled an amateur like me to contribute to this great enterprise. Kudos especially to Roger for all he has done to enable us to contribute to our guys overseas! Let's keep a good thing going!!

Bill, we sort of drag each other along ;) Lots of teasing but deep down there are some great guys in this group.
