Maybe I'll have to deliver that package myself. We still got to drift some holes ;) .

My schedule's wide open. You got your choice between the spare bedroom or you can have the camper all to yourself :D

Looks like I can get down after work on the 22nd. Depending on trafic which should be light I could probably get down early afternoon. Spare bedroom sounds good to me.

Everybody make sure and wipe the blade down with a good coat of pork fat before shipping for rust prevention. I heard the terrorists just love pork fat. I'm completely kidding by the way.

looking forward to some input that counts.

Think we should we quench these blades in pork fat and label them so???????

When you quench, use your left hand....We don't need to know why, they just don't like it! :D

I emailed Roger and signed up to do a knife. I for one am honored to get the chance to do something to help our troops out. Can't wait to see what everybody does for this.

Whatcha think? Blade is about 6" It will look better when I clean up the profile.
Should I grind it to about .030?

Thinking of black Micarta......with loveless bolts and a thong hole :D

Its 5/32" 0-1 (of course :D )
Its a design thats been lengthened to fit the bill. I need to email the recipient of the civilian version and see what he thinks. Hope he doesnt want his blade lengthened because his has been cut and I dont have any more stock...he he.

off to fry a turkey now...no not you Mark~

Man Brian we must be having the same thought. :D My knife is similar in design. Not quite the same but pretty close. I profiled and did the convex grind today. It'a 3/16" thick D2. 1 1/2" wide with a 6 1/2" spearpoint blade and a 5" handle. It will have green canvas micarta scales, loveless screws and a thong hole. I'm projecting it will be ready in about a month. I wish I could post a pic but I'm still working on setting up with Dan to do that. I'm pleased with what's done so far on the knife.

I emailed Roger and will be contributing a knife. As a veteran, I am honored to be supporting our forces.

Man - I should have checked to see if I have 3/16" stock - Oh well. Thanks for the incouragement guys.

RAzor - email me a pic and I'll post it.

That tweed is my Fender Bassman. Had alot of wine spilled on it during my gigging days as a lead guitar and singer in a band for about 5 years. I have a Tele with stacked humbuckers to go with it. MAde a tele copy from scratch ...that took about 6 months to do.

Now I gig in the shop with my grinder ;)

Forty years ago, when I got hand to hand combat training in the Army, they specified that the preferred way to take out a sentry was to stab in the kidney. They claimed that the shock was so great the the sentry would not make any noise and would not thrash around, but would be instantly unconscious.

I am in, by the way.

I put the order in for the knife in Brian's picture, and this is the first time I'm seeing it in steel. YOWZA!

That's hot, Brian! I can't wait! That blade length is perfect (the almost 5"), so don't worry about the stock :D

C'mon Brian, finish it, sometime before next YEAR :p (By the way, that leaves you 3 hours. Get working! :D )

Brian,

Your blade should be fine but if you are having second thoughts about thickness I have some 1/4 inch X 2 inch 1075 that I would be happy to send you enough of. It is a wonderful steel for knives of this sort (your O1 will be too) and its a lot of fun watching the sparks fly as you grind it. You can heat treat it or I am happy to if you prefer. Just in case you're wrastling with the thickness. That is the only reason I offer it.

RL

Thanks RL. I think that teh stock I have may be okay. If I grind it too thin I'll jump on your offer though...I think I have some 3/16" as a back up too.

Looking forward to it :D
