Fellow forum members this sort of saddens me to have to say this but, I feel I need to do this. I'm a US Service Member deployed to Korea and have been here for awhile. I recently made a credit card purchase to Triple Aught Design Gear for a Cutters Knife and Tool Karambit. This purchase was well over 2 months ago and I still have yet to receive it. I contacted the customer service there and they told me they mailed it and that's pretty much it. I have an APO address so they told me they couldn't be responsible for it being lost. I receive knives from the states frequently and so having an APO address isn't a valid reason or legitimate excuse for them not getting my knife to me. It's their responsibility to get the product to me. They said they would look into it and I've sent emails trying to find out the status and still no response. The saddest part is that they did charge my credit card for this purchase. This is in my opinion really bad business. All I want is a refund or another karambit to be sent my way. Military pay isn't something to get rich off so naturally this makes me extremely upset. TAD Gear has a reputable reputation but they are giving me the go around. Either way, I paid for a product I have yet to receive. Legal action is next if I don't get a response soon. I just want you to becareful the next time you purchase from a vendor and it is my hope that you don't have to go through what I'm going through right now. Thanks for reading my forum

Since they sent it to an APO. . .they had to use USPS. They should have sent it with confirmation tracking (this gets flakey when shipped overseas - but hell. . .it's only $ .45) and insurance on it.

Curious as to how they described the contents. . .on the customs form. If they described it as a "knife or folding knife". . .that baby is "evita bye-bye !"

If they charged your credit card. . .you should be able to go back through the credit card company and file a dispute.

The credit card company will do whats called a "charge back". In that the remove the money from the account of the company you bought the merchandise from.

At which point, upon notification of the charge back, they have about two weeks to respond.

This response will have to be where they show where they shipped the items you ordered and that you received them.

If they cannot do this, the money is credited to your charge card.

At that point you can let the company know they have 24hours to "fill or kill" the order.

Some credit cards will let you do this over the phone. Some require it in writitng. If you send in a letter, be sure to send the letter certified. As generally you only have 45-60 days to contest a charge. The clock stops ticking when the CC Company signs for that certified letter.

Why don't TAD respond to Robert's e-mails?
The man is serving his country overseas, for goodness sake!
Pretty poor show!

Yep, do the credit card dispute. They got your money, you got nothing. The CC company can handle this for you.

They might ignore your emails, although Im sure they will notice when they get a charge back.

Once you get your card credited you can order what you want from somewhere else that will take care of you.

I know all of those guys personally and there is NO way they are going to leave you hanging.........I dont know why they havent responded but I can assure you they will take care of your problem.
If they said they mailed it, they mailed it........Last Christmas I sent $1200 to someone I didnt know for a nice watch......He sent it priority insured USPS...........It took over 30 days to get to me.

The one time I contacted TAD by email it took weeks to get a response to a question about the availability of a knife that was listed on their website with the invitation "contact us for more information". Others have reported much, much better service.

On a side note, does your credit card have purchase protection? You may be able to have it replaced through the credit card company.

Dear Sir,
TAD gear has gone out of our way to provide you with the best customer service possible. We have done everything that you have reguested, but there are cerain things out of control. Shipping a knife in the US mail is not exactly welcomed with open arms, but since we like to do what our customers ask, we shipped it for you. Since it is an APO address we declare it as a "camp Tool". Because it is overseas it does go through customs. Since it is an APO the USPS will not insure it. Terms that you agreed on on Oct. 23rd, and reviewed again on Dec. 23rd. We have kept an open conversation and responded.
If you would like to keep this conversation private instead of airing your grievences here please feel free to contact us offline.

i have NEVER had a problem with TAD. those guys know what the score is. every time i have ordered from them for myself or others the packages always come in non-discript boxes that dont say anything on them except TAD's address and mine.

Just a bit of info: I shipped to an APO a couple days ago by USPS and the person behind the counter pretty much told me that they couldn't do a delivery confirmation and that once it reaches the military it's pretty much out of their control. I just thought I'd chime in because I tried to do the "confirmation tracking" thing and they wouldn't let me.

Ditto to fulloflead. I have mailed several packages lately to APO addresses, and there is nothing you can do to track or insure it according to the USPS people here.

I have bought from TADgear in the past with very good service and communication. I hope y'all get everything worked out.

For what it's worth. I've heard only good to very good things about TAD's line of products and service to the user community. Can also verify the inherent problems shipping/receiving overseas. :grumpy:

All the best and hope that your receive your equipment soon.

Stuart

I have only dealt with TAD a few times (less than 10, I know) and most of my orders were low dollar deals, not the real expensive orders like some folks do.

They have answered all my emails, even the ones that had probably the stupidest questions on earth. They have never failed to act professional, or friendly, and have treated all my orders like they were million dollar deals.

The person, behind the counter, that you were dealing with should have told you that you can use a service called "return receipt." Which is a form of USPS "delivery confirmation/confirmation tracking."

And you can insure packages going to APO's/FPO's ! Don't let anyone tell you different !

I don't know how many packages that I've sent to APO's and received packages while being overseas over the years. . .but all have been insured.

But just in case the rules have changed since I last shipped to an APO/FPO (and I ship 4 "care" packages a month). . .I just called the 6 Post Offices in my area and the USPS 1-800 and was told by "all" that you can insure packages going to APO's/FPO's. And that it didn't matter what USPS location that you were shipping from. ;)

Sounds as if some of you need to talk to your "Post Master."

While APO's/FPO's are manned and operated by the Armed Forces (and employees of the Armed Forces). . .they are still considered part of the USPS.

 Although I have also been told several times I am unable to use delivery confirmation, I have insured packages to APO addresses. I personally think they should be responsible to get you the package. Good thing for credit card chargebacks :)

Ive shipped via USPS to an APO in Guam..it took almost three months..I was informed that post 9/11 all packages are opened and/or xrayed..whether this is true or not I dont know but the fella I sold the blade to ( a Rekat hobbit) did eventually get the blade..I shipped him another knife and it took just as long..two months..heck you should look for your item inthe next four weeks..

The thing is when we go to the post office and they tell us we cannot insure these items, we don't argue with the post office staff.
We told partial serrations up front what the terms were, and he agreed to the terms.

Since it is an APO the USPS will not insure it.

That is not true and dissapointing to hear from a company I have recommended to people in the past.
