So i got my spyderco mule team 18 and when i opened it up i saw Taichung Taiwan on the blade... I dont know about you guys but i felt really disappointed when i saw this. There was nothing on their site that said it where it was made so i just figured it was USA like the other mule team. I just dont under stand why they take a metal(CPM-S110V) thats made in new york and ship it off to be made and that its their most expensive of the series i thought Taiwan was supposed to be cheaper. Idk i just feel better knowing my knife was made here. Its like some sense of security and pride as well.

Their taichung factory makes excellent knives. Love my Gayle Bradley and Nilakka. It is cheaper to manufacture there, and if your knife were USA made it would cost a lot more. Spyderco does this because a) they don't have the capacity in their Colorado plant and b) they can offer great knives at a substantial discount.

True my CRKT m16 comes from taiwan n its a great knife but that was $30 not $100 i guess that steel is just really expensive. its just the security and pride i feel or dont feel in this case i guess. So Taichung is like a place in Taiwan? i just i guessed it was Taiwanese for "made in" hah

how am i trolling i was wondering wat others felt about the subject and wats wrong with my post history

My Domino is awesome. My Sage 1 was great. My Sage 2 was sweet. Both my Gayle Bradleys were immaculate. My Cat is good. Sounds like Taiwan makes a damn fine knife.

Spyderco website has a country of origin tab for all of their knives. I kept away from Spyderco because I did not always know this. I did not know how to discern where a particular model was made. It turns out that it is quite simple.

This was already discussed on the Spyderco subforum

Hope Sal doesn't mind if I quote him here but this is what he said, and quite frankly from what I hear their Taiwan made knives are among the best that are coming out of Spyderco. And owning 2 MT18P's myself I can safely say these are some high quality knives enjoy them and be happy we were able to get them so cheap.

Hi Txknifefan,

Sorry for your disappointment. Our Taiwan people are among the best in the world. It got down to make it in Taiwan or wait a year or two or not make it at all. The next few Mules will also be made by the same maker. He's good enough to make them and gracious enough to bother. They are not easy to make.

The Taiwan spydies are mind blowing with their quality.... I personally consider it a pro, not a con. Szabo, Navaja, Southard, Bradley, all seriously hot in terms a fit and finish.

Indeed, ad the Vallotton to that list - best knife I own.

I haven't seen any problems with any spyderco knives no matter where they are from as they all get quality checked before being sent out to distributors.

The factories making these knives have state of the art machinery & are using 1st class materials,& the quality of these knives are easily equal to most other makers.

Dang Taiwanese made knives, I hates them too, send me yours for proper disposal.

Please do some research, Spyderco factory in Boulder is slammed, you still got an American made steel, from an American company.

It's actually mind blowing that this mule was only $10 more than the last. The steel was made here, shipped over, made into knives and shipped back, come on people.

If it makes you feel any better nearly all high quality sure surgical scalpes were made in Taiwan. Now most surgeries electronic scalpes.

I read somewhere that Taiwan doesn't produce any steel, so all of it is imported. This adds to cost, but the quality is remarkable. I have a domino, southard, and gayle bradley all perfect fit n finish.

I dont know why some folks have a special issue where knives are made but dont have the same level of concern with other things they own starting with the computer they are typing on to moan about it. Whatever makes you tick I guess.

Just so we're clear, I hate you and everything you stand for. LOL But seriously, that is a gorgeous knife. Wow.

Man, where is the drool smiley when you need it?
