taking a sabatical

I'm sorry to see you go RR but I can understand your feelings....sometimes we need a break. I've noticed that I don't spend as much time here lately but it hasn't gotten to the point where I feel the need to walk away....

I hope to see you back before long....I always enjoy your posts.

Riley that sucks buddy, I felt the same way a short time back but now just try and focus on the positive. There are some great guys here and I learn a lot so now just let any negative comments go over my head !

+1 You have to learn to filter the good from the bad.

Sorry to see you go, man! I can understand your frustration, though. Besides, there are lots of things that are more important than spending time on a forum! :p I always look forward to your posts, and look forward to your return even more. :o

I hate to hear that the forum is having problems, since I have come back I have noticed that it seems to be a bit different than it used to be. I used to be considered a bit rowdy but I don't think I can hold a candle to some stuff I have read since coming back, however I am very glad to see some familiar faces and am glad to be back. And like I said, I hope that RRs break does him good and he comes back soon.

HD, I do love my burgundy wine and I have a dime for your cup of coffee any day. Chris

A bit??? Sorry RB/AW/Chris, I just couldn't help it. :D

-------------------------------------------------

RR I'm not as sorry to see you go, as some of the rest because I expect you to keep in touch - you have my email address.

I'm also still waiting for you and GS to get your ass up here to Ontario, one day. Maybe one of the Ontario brothers (hint, hint) will have to put together an all-province, all-state get together next fall. Maybe we can even drag misanthropist out of the woodwork

I know how you feel about the tone of the forum. I've come and gone a few times. My current solution is to completely ignore the pitas, just like they and their posts don't exist, because in truth, they are inconsequential.

Anyway, RR, enjoy the sabbatical - and keep in touch.

Doc

Guys, Thank you so much for the kind words.. in truth I'v learned so much more from the folks that have posted here than anywhere...I realized my OP seemed kind of bitchy..it want my intention..I just realized that I find myself having rewrite my posts o ncertain threads to try and contain my tones of frustration (which would make me seem like the very people that inspire those feelings..) OP has been edited to appear less whiny

BETTER KEEP IN TOUCH!

Take care! I hope you reconsider. If everyone who contributes positively walks away, we'd all be left without this wonderful resource. Either way. Best wishes!

The more I see this thread, the more upsetting it is. So far the guys who have posted in this are obviously not the ones driving contributors like Rescue Riley, Doc Canada, Pict, etc off. Allot of the guys that are full of great info and don't post anymore. Like john I see less Camaraderie and more bickering and posturing then anything else. I enjoy this forum, and I have no problems with disagreements. But I wish people would post in a thread like they were all sitting on the couch having the discussion over a beer. There is no need for disrespect and chest beating. We are all here because we have a common interest that we want to discuss, share, and learn about. At least that's what I thought we were here for....

Anyway, sorry for the mini rant;)

Well said

Riley, good fortunes :)

Best wishes to you Riley. Your sheaths and such are still in progress, so you'll be getting an e-mail or two from me about that as things progress.

Not really sure why you are leaving. I am certainly not one of the "experts" on these forums, but I post from time to time. I have enjoyed your posts RescueR. You at least seem like a real person.

I tend to visit in waves of interest. Lately it has been a non-wave time. I hang over on RimfireCentral a good bit. Great bunch there. Good luck to ya fella!

John, Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I'm going to try to get you up here for some winter hikes and outings. You definitely are one of the "doers' here and inspire a lot of people. You leaving is sad for us but the right thing for you right now. Peace brudda.

When I first started playing around on this forum, I made a reply to a post about water filtration, and got "gently" taken to task for my position.
When I found out that I couldn't back up my statements with solid facts, I decided that it would be far better for me to adopt the
"Keep Your Mouth Shut and You Might Learn Something" approach.
It's worked pretty well so far, and John has been one of those who I have learned lots from.

Don't be away too long John. I might be forced to start talking again...:D

G'day RR

Whilst I applaud those who want to spend more time doing than talking about it, it appears that's not the sole reason for your break :thumbdn:

On a personal note, I'll pass on something I have noticed about all internet forums. They are frequented by people. As in life in general, there is a full range of personalities often represented including "the good, the bad & the ugly". I think it's a shame that those who come to these forums seeking advice are being deprived of opinions that are based on first hand experience, by the departure of the doers.

I sincerly hope you enjoy your time outdoors and make sure you take your camera with you. I'm looking forward to that time in the future when you decide it's time to return, as I always enjoy pics that show the different natural parts of our world :D

Best wishes for your upcomming adventures

Kind regards
Mick

A bit??? Sorry RB/AW/Chris, I just couldn't help it. :D

Doc

No problem, I'm sure I deserve it, I don't think I ever personally attacked someone and I never held a grudge.

Some of my breaks are my own free will, others are not, there was and is a great group of guys here, that's why I keep coming back. I'm sure RR will be back also. Chris

Riley its good to take a break every now and then. You are definitely one of the better members here so its sad to see you go.
In the interim maybe some of the more volatile people who have been hanging out here of late will migrate back to the general section or whine and cheese!
Hopefully things will be more friendly/calm when you return.
:)

Riley, hope you make good use of your outdoor time and have fun as your batteries recharge. I always enjoyed your posts. I fear the over-opinionated, macho-wannabees are just a product of the times and unlikely to fade away any time soon. (mini vent) :-)
Looking forward to your return.

Bummer! I'm kinda new here and have been absorbing everything I can find on all subjects. It's sad to see someone with your knowledge and experience leaving. I understand your frustration. We all feel it from time to time in whatever we are doing. Enjoy your time off and I hope you return soon.

Good luck Riley...it's natural to take a little break...mine usually come in the form of a deployment:D I'm pretty busy right now and my forum time has dropped off. I'm sure a little break will be refreshing to you and a bonus to WSS when you decide to drop in. Stay in touch and you'll be missed during your "little break"...I'll keep a cold beer in the fridge for you if you ever get down to GA:D
