Talk me out of a Spyderco (if you can)

Spyderco's are great knives. Please let us know what you choose datatransfer.

Hi Datatransfer,

I won't try to talk you into or out of Spyderco, but I would say that one really needs to use one of our peices for a while before the design / build quality / materials can be appreciatred.

Hi Sog,

FRN is pretty tough stuff, regardless of it's appearance.

Well, here's a few (links provided in case you think they aren't really Aluminum handles, or that they aren't really SOGs): 3G

I Believe you missed the point. He was refering to seeing sogs Fail not seeing sogs with aluminum handles

As to the "Crappy" FRN handles on spydercos, I have a Delica that is a 1o + year EDC in the Ho Hum AUS 8 steel with no liners, this knife has been used to split kindling, pry door locks, cut seat belts, clothing, cardboard, chop ice out of a Zamboni blade, cut more materials than i could mention in one post, it has also been thrown, dropped, submerged in fresh and salt water, and used as a daily Kitchen knife in my first apartment. The blade and handle Have NEVER I repeat NEVER!!! failed in any way. ( I semi Retired it this year Going for an endura 4 but it still comes out to play sometimes.)

I will admit that this blade requires more frequent sharpening than some of my other more expensive knives.

and as far as the handles go my brother did break the Molded FRN pocket clip of his rescue model, bought around the same time, while leaning his full weigt over a ladder rung to pull out a victim from a fire, Luckily the knife only fell into his bunker coat pocket. he put on a spap link and it hangs from the outside of his bunker coat to this day, some ten years later. that knife has literally been through hell and is still going strong.

This is probably why spyderco No Longer Uses Molded Clips.

We shoudnt attack SOG For stating that he feels the knives are unnatractive and that he wouldnt want to rely on them. He will simply continue to use inferior knives, Im sure that the number of positive posts Based on actual experience with the knives will outweigh his negative one based only an appearance and ignorance.

Yeah he's right. I bought my first endura thinking it was funny looking. I heard all the talk but decided to try it. It was like a right hand. Its a funny looking blade but damn if it didn't work for everything you could need. Just have to try it out.

I cried and lite a candle when I lost it one day.
