Talk me out of taking a white tail with a .44 mag DE this season.

KD, there's an aftermarket "plug" for the lock.

The big wheel-guns are very capable of taking deer size game out to 100 yards.
No doubt about the effectiveness of the round... I know guys that hunt small whitetail with a 8" bbl in 357 mag. It works fine if you do your part.

But the political correctness of the 'hillary hole' just irritates the hell out of me and I will not own one with that feature. A sign I saw once in a gun store sums it up... it read:

"THESE GUNS DO NOT COME WITH BRAINS. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO USE YOUR OWN."

Still.... I believe the following: (and you can quote me)

An additional 'safety feature' on a revolver is like a pig with four nuts.

It may make him feel better psychologically, but they only get in the way when it's time to use the tool. ;)

That's an Awesome Quote Kdstrick. I just hate the hillary hole also. No need for that stupid lock like you said if you have a brain.;)

do it,i have handgun hunted for years,a python to a 45 to a browning high power they all will bring em down.............

KD,

Thanks for the quote. I'll make sure to use that one next time I'm at my local gunshop.

I'm sorry to have derailed the discussion with an offensive pic of a gun lock. Actually, I'm not fond of the hole, I just tend to ignore it. But, you are absolutely right. The lock is unnecessary and in a high adrenaline moment, might keep you from being able to use the gun.

230,

Check local laws, then choose a cartridge and a gun that you can shoot well and that delivers enough energy at the maximum distance that you would like to shoot.

I love the "hillary hole" reference! I had a 38 special snubby I sold that had one! It looked like "a herpe on the lip of a beautiful woman!"

Yup agree.... Brains required not more non sense with additional "safety features" how about safe gun handling and training!

230, I have never hunted with a handgun, my opinion is if you can harvest the deer safely and quickly with a disciplined shot go for it.

I myself am of the mindset I alwAys rather have a longgun over a handgun in any situation if feasable. But I Do trust my life to a handgun.

J ps post pics of you get any deer this season! I'm making the trek to martha's vineyard again hoping for my second deer! I have hunting licenses for your state and mine ;)

Hope I will get one, I got 3 pheasant so far this season, hoping to pop two more tomm afternoon. Since I don't bowhunt it is pheasant for me until shotgun/rifle seasons here in NE!

Good luck! J

No one likes Freedom Arms? Get a .454 and an extra cylinder for 45LC or 45 Auto. You'll have a lot of fun. If you get hooked on handgun hunts, the .454 will take down anything you can afford to hunt. Only going to get 1 inch at a hundred yards though so it's still close range.

20-30 yards a 6" Python would be hard to beat.

Wait, did you ask for helping talking in or out? I forgot!

Unless you can take the deer in two shots, I would not buy the DE. I can't imagine shooting very accurate with a DE, and worst at a moving animal. If you want to feel the DE, some shooting ranges will rent them out. Instead of the DE, get yourself a Smith and Wesson 617 .22 revolver. I heard they are fun and cheap to shoot.
