Awesome! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Duncan, Thanks for allowing me to hitchhike onto your thread.

Tom's Choice barlows need to be experienced firsthand by all traditional knife fans. Solid built, consistent medium pull, halfstops without proud springs, 1095 patinas if you wish or can be cleaned off from time to time if you wish. Excellent quality for the price.

Here's a TC I would like to donate, a two blade long pull clip with ebony covers. Ask the winner be a first time TC owner. It's a special knife because it was gifted to me by Linus and because I have carried, used, sharpened the main blade (pen has factory toothy edge), cleaned (some of the etching is gone), and enjoyed this knife. Like the leather gloves it has my patina on it and am hoping the new owner will put it in their pocket and add more.

Just incase i dont win this knife, could you by any chance post it's name or whatever so I can find it online, I'm looooooving it so much!

Tom's Choice barlow made by Great Eastern Cutlery. They come in different blade styles, one or two blades, and different cover material (this one is ebony). Made in small batches, they can be somewhat elusive in the exact style you want but the hunt is half the fun!

First, I must thank all the great folks here that make this forum so much fun as it is educational, I do so much reading here I feel I don't really have much to contribute, knowledge wise, that is. However I have always been a trad nut so here is my meager attempt to enter this contest. I do not own a barlow.
1. I think the split back whittler may be a good choice
2. I really prefer the marking that's on the T/C--genuine barlow, it just looks like it belongs on this blade.
3. I prefer the single sheepfoot one, it reminds me of one that came off the wreck Steamship Arabia, that was raised on the Mo. river, a knife designed primarily for work.
4. I don't deserve to win as much as others, but I think that Charlies version is the only one I have ever wanted to own, I would cherish it.

Well Duncan, I have to admit I only read the first post when I posted... I just finished reading the entire thread after seeing my infraction (first in 10 years across multiple forums :)) so... I figure I'll at least put some thoughts down for your questions.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
Well, I'd like to say the #48 Jack as others have said. To me, its big enough for a good grip but slender in the pocket. Good sized main blade and smaller but still relatively large secondary blade. But I'd probably have to stop buying them all so that their popularity increases ;)

So my next thoughts are that the "real need" for many for a pocket knife continues to "lessen" (even the hard to open plastic packages seem to be adding easy to open features) that people would want a small knife. Like a #33, #68 White Owl, #66 Calf Roper Slim, #09 Esquire, Queen #21 Senator etc.. but that's more than one model.

The future could be a funny thing... who really knows what the next big thing will be. For all we know, it'll be leg knives :)

But what I really think will be popular is what is pretty popular now. I'm thinking the #85 for many of the same reasons I mentioned for the #48 Jack. Plus we can see their predecessors still popular and in use. A #85 in durable woods like ebony or other natural materials that still look great decades later. That fat blade, still very useable after many many sharpenings. I wonder how many sharpenings it'll take before you make one into a toothpick. Specifically though, I think the easy open models will be the post popular. With the 2011 BF jack, and a couple SFOs, there really aren't that many out there.

Opening up the question a little bit, I think it will also be certain natural materials. I think some will be harder to get in the future or be greatly restricted.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
To be honest, I'm not really an etching/graphics on the blade guy. I'd love a nice satin. I think it looks the best on any knife.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
Specific for the TC barlow is that bolster. I really like the way it looks and the simple-yet-at-the-same-time-not TC stamp. I think it really pulls the knife together much more so than if it were blank or more elaborate.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
I can't say that I should... I did have a couple from the very first runs that I let go to folks who missed out. If I do win though, I promise to keep and use it. If I don't win then I hope they go to folks who would keep and use it as I would (or more. More is always good :))

This is seriously NOT an entry! I already have every Charlow made. So I don't need to "win" any more. But I have been watching this thread from the sidelines and wanted to add my opinion to the questions.
1st off I must say I'm completely proud of you outstanding members who have stepped up with this give away. Not surprised at all but totally PROUD! You all have once again shown me the true character of this forum. And the reason that this little corner of the inner tubes is the best place I have found. It has been hard just watching this thread grow, but I've had such lousy internet service that every time I tried to post I would get about have way thru and loose my connection. I was only lucky once in the last month and able to post anything, and that was in Charlie's SFO's thread.
The bead and the leather work are especially thoughtful, to give a piece of yourself, something that you created, expecting nothing in return, is exemplary behavior! And in the finest tradition shown here. I applaud you all.
So to the questions...
I have only seen 1 person agree with me so far on Charlies Harness Jacks. I think hands down they will become more desirable with time.
As far as the etch or stamping goes I agree with most of you... They are perfect the way they are! Less is more in this case. IMO
Question #3, What is there not to like? The proportions are spot on perfect, you can't get any more traditional with the handle material chosen. With the Walnut Gunstock and Stew's blade there is the personal and sentimental touch that make them Charlie's. And then there's the art work from Barry and whom ever is doing the tube art and of course Charlie's thoughts on the back of the tube. They are a very special release in my opinion.
Question #4 I do NOT deserve to win and PLEASE do not include me in the knife drawing at least. When Charlie told me what he had planed for this project I put in an order to him 1 of everything that you make. Some i could not resist and ordered 2, one to carry and one to put up. So you see I already have all the bases covered! :D
There!! Man this was a lot to get off my chest! I haven't talked this much in a loooong time.
Carry On Men!
Dave

It's true! Dave has a more complete collection of my SFOs than I do!!

Glad you got through the entire post, Dave!!
Shows the place the internet has taken in our very existence!
