At the risk of being banned for uttering heresy on Charlie's birthday, I have to admit that if I'm fortunate enough to be among the winners of this epic GAW, I'd probably appreciate one of these fabulous pocket slips more than a Charlow!!

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

Thanks for the very generous giveaway.

1. I think that the Case swayback jack in chestnut bone and CV will be very desirable in the future. It seemed to make a big impression both here and on other forums, and for good reason. It's the most well constructed modern Case knife that I've handled.

2. This is a tough one for me because for the most part, I'm not a big fan of etching on blades. I feel that a lot of times it distracts from the overall look of the knife itself. I do think something like this , but with Tom's Choice instead of Tom Sawyer could be cool.

3. The main thing that draws me to the TC Barlow is their old timey, classic look, as well as how sturdy they look. It reminds me of something my grandfather would have carried, which makes me feel that it would be the perfect knife for me to pass down to my son.

As for my favorite model, I prefer the look of the single blade spear point or sheep's foot. I like pretty much all of the handle materials I've seen, but it is hard to beat ebony for they classic folksy look.

4. I certainly can't say that I deserve to win this giveaway any more than anyone else, there are a bunch great people in this little corner of Blade Forums, as has been proven time and time again with all of the gifting of knives that goes on. The generosity here really is amazing, especially in a day and age when it seems that a lot of people only look out for themselves. What I can say is that if I did win this giveaway, these knives would become family heirlooms, which is what I feel knives like these deserve. They are something that me, my son and daughter, and future grand kids would all be able to appreciate and enjoy.

Thank you again for the chance.

Hoping to get in on this as I´m a non TC barlow owner. (never owned, held or seen one in the physical world)

I believe that the colored SAKs will be collectible for a long time.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
Something simple and elegant in the less is more tradition.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
Why? Because of all the beautiful pictures you ppl post of them.
I really like the sawcut bone handled ones.. long pull spear and the sheepsfoot.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
Hoping is more like it.. I´m looking for a (knife) companion that can be with me for many years to come, and (again) hoping that the TC barlow might be the one for me.

Wow Willydigger and Esnyx! amazing additions to an already amazing giveaway! Thank you both along with all the rest - Duncan, Paul, Stephen, Barry, John, Charlie, and Mark - am I missing anyone? The list of those deserving thanks is getting pretty long! LOL

Wow...this thread should be required reading for all new joiners to the traditional sub-forum. It perfectly demonstrates the essence of this community of traditional knife knuts. I would like to see it permanently in yellow. Just a thought.

Evan ~ that slip is amazing. Now, I have volunteered if I win a Charlow to hand it over to someone else, but if I win one of those three beautiful slips or the bead, it's going in my pocket :)

Paul has just contacted me and he mentioned that soon we must cap the contributors - so what do you think Paul - you make the call when you see fit please Sir

Everyone, please don't think of me as a "Kill Joy" to additional contributions:o I just ran some ideas up the flag pole "per se" in regards to when and how the final drawings will be made;)

Knowing Duncan, he was WAY ahead of me:D

This fantastic GAW is truly taking on a (very neat) life of it's own and I shared concern's with Duncan so this doesn't get away from ALL involved;)

I Pm'ed Primble and said I haven't had this much fun in the Traditional forum in a long time---his counter thread to the GAW and the good natured bantering was a blast to read and follow:)

So Duncan, Stephen, Barry, John, Mark, Charlie, Evan and Willdigger any Ideas in regards to the thread lets just PM or email one another and go from there. I know Duncan has the GAW rapping up in approx a week or so?

This is fun to say the least...Please forum members enter if you haven't yet, just answer the questions Duncan laid out as it's great input in regards to the TC Barlow;)

ERIK (and some others) I do see some infractions coming your way from the man himself so the negate that you better answer the questions because like it or not your entered:D:D:D

I have to side with others that mentioned the #85, just so classy yet a great work knife:thumbup:

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I really like whoever came up with "Charlies Signature" idea

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
Love all the designs---seriously to me there's not a bad one, but MY all time favorite is the Clip,Pen released in 2013?

4,Why you think you should win a TC Barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
The most popular answer---"I don't deserve to win more than anyone one else" This I totally agree with but hypothetically (not and entry here so I can't receive and infraction:D but I would love to gift it away:thumbup:

I kind of get a feel for someone prior to gifting a knife away---in person or over the net. Like if they'd really use it, care for it in the right way etc...

I'd like to contribute to the GAW too. I made a Charlow bead in African Blackwood. Please add it to the GAW.

Oh, just in case I need permission, I spoke with Primble and he authorized it! :D
That bead is REALLY nice, what did you use to carve out all the details/letters?

Hey willydigger: I don't know how you managed that, but those blades are nice and centered! I wonder, how's the walk and talk? Have the blades ever been sharpened or used? ;):):)

Seriously, nice job--really well done!

WOW! INCREDIBLE giveaway! Thanks to all for your generosity! Answers:

1. Probably the Northwoods Norfolk or the Northwoods Fremont Jack. :)
2. I don't really care about this, so I don't have a suggestion. My only request is that it be not flashy. :)
3. I think the TC barlow is GEC's best knife. Perfect size and perfect lines and design. My favorite is the clip point in sawcut bone, but I love ebony and walnut--walnut being the only one I currently own (but you can change that! :D)
4. Because I'm the random winner? Honestly, I don't think any of us would say that we deserve such generosity, but if I were to win this, I would pass it on to my son for a sweet "coming of age" gift. I have bought two of these for friends as gifts and I bought one for myself, but because of their rarity, I can't take it out of the case for fear that I might not be able to get another one. So I save this one just in case a good reason to give it away arrives, or maybe another run of charlows shows up and I can buy another one and keep this as backup. :)

While we're waitin' for word on the winners, I've been busy makin' some more knife slips and I thought some of you would enjoy seeing the simplified process.

First, get yourself a couple scraps of veg tanned leather. I use a pattern to keep everything straight.

Punch your lace holes before cutting the finished shape:

Do your design work or tooling:

A little stain, and you're ready to lace:

Nothing to it! :)

Nothing to it! :)

Yeah, looks really easy. I bet I could knock one of those out in five minutes. Either that or spend 20 years trying and failing over and over again. My guess is it would probably be the latter. Great work Barry, and thanks for showing us the process. Did you make that jig yourself, or is that something you can buy somewhere?

Very nice work! The lacing is very impressive...... and looks very time consuming. I like the stain you use..... gives the leather a great color.

And truth be told, the leather work is great, but my eye was drawn to the mallet. Nice Oak(?) mallet. Your work too?

Thanks guys! I made both the pattern and the mallet (a piece of oak stair post).

Awesome Barry! Thoroughly impressive work bud! Your tooling skills put mine to shame!!

Nice composite smoother thingy tool by the way...;)
