Tc barlows & mind blowing sheath give-away**WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

I will start by saying I do not now nor have I ever owned a Barrow or a TC Barrow. I like the Tridioute Nifebrite lambsfoot and Tom's Choice with African Blackwood.I also like the GEC-TC Barrow SFO Single Razor. I can't remember if that has the pen blade too. Also the clip and pen blade.
I have always loved Barrow Knives.Something about them calls out to my blood. Now I can honestly say I do not know about all the different runs they have had. But I have known for a long time that they have been around for over a hundred years and even Mark Twain owned one. It's part of the American heritage. It's part of us all. I have always found their design and look appealing and have been drawn to them.
I like the vintage stamping that they have and its importance in identifying what they are. So I like the clean look they have. But if I had to pick a design My thoughts are a vintage stamp of its birthplace to be marked with the name of its maker and date if its design.
I think its a classic and will never go out of style. People know quality when they see it and I would love to hold a piece of history and craftsmanship in my hand and pocket. Sentimentally I feel the need to own one because my Grandpa owned one. His Barrow did not go to me but to one of his sons, understandably. I would sit and watch him widdle for hours totally enthralled by the way his hands moved so effortlessly, wielding his Barrow through the wood as if it were butter. That was a long time ago. But I know once I have a Barrow in my hands I will feel like I am back there with my Grandpa again.
I would find it an honor and a privilege to be able to start my, "knife life," as I'm calling, it with a classic Barrow.

Amazing give away....

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
The Case/Bose collabs....

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I like the idea of CHARLOW

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
Its a barlow with quality , I like the spear point most.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ?
Been trying to find one for far too long , always a day late , few dollars short when one does present itself.
I only have one barlow , it's an old one my grandfather owned.

So i would like to be included in the draw... Cant say i really deserve it as i am a relative newby to traditionals but boy would i cherish a tc barlow! I dont have one yet but id have to say my choice for the ultimate charlow would be a sheepsfoot main and pen or coping secondary with long pull in saw cut ivory or amber bone. I cant think of another worthy candidate for a collectible to compete with the tc. What i like about the tc is the beautiful proportions great bolsters and mostly that awe inspiring sheepsfoot blade. Almost forgot about blade etchings cause if i had my druthers id say none! I think the bolster design is enough and if i ever get one ima using it and i think a plain blade is best for heavy use and patina.

Duncan,I'm glad it's you going to give me this infraction, instead of Gary.:)

Not an entry, just showing support for a great bunch of people, that I like.

I agree with others about an etch with Charlie's signature, but only if Sarah writes it...

So much generosity shown by some outstanding members of the best knife community on the interwebs. I have a long running love for Barlows. My first knife was a Barlow. I don't own a TC Barlow because disposable funds are a rare occurrence in my house. The spirit of these knives is so strongly echoed in this thread that I could almost smell it when I logged onto BF.

1. In my mind the Harness Jacks, Radio Jacks and the 22 Magnum would be highly collectible for many years to come, perhaps generations.

2. As has been mentioned the cane poll with a worm on a hook below a bobber or Tom's Choice Charlie approved.

3. Because the Barlow has been a huge favorite of mine for 30+ years the TC Barlows have huge appeal for me, especially with saw cut bone and clip main with pen secondary.

4. I wouldn't say I deserve to win one as there are so many that don't own one either. Who am I that I would deserve one more than any of the others? I will say that as much as anyone I do want one. The nostalgic appeal is as strong as the function appeal. If I am fortunate enough to to be chosen to receive one of these outstanding knives that I will be forced to host a GAW of the handmade variety.

Thanks for the chance at such a great GAW. This forum has had some truly epic threads of generosity. Good luck to all

Chris

Thought this thread could use a bump - it was at the bottom of the page. ;):D

Everyone's jumpin' on the multi-TC Barlow GAW on that other thread! I have a feeling there may be many disappointed entries. ;)

Didn't they read the first post?:confused::eek:

Wow! Such a generous giveaway.

I would love a chance.

1) I think the case SBJ will be a classic for sure. Specifically the single blade.

2) I would like to see a leaf etching.

3) I think the TCs and barlows in general have nice lines.

4) I don't deserve to win anymore than the next guy.

Again, very generous giveaway. Thanks for the chance.

WHAT!!! The other thread is a joke! What is the point of that. Primble should be forced to dress like a patriotic horse and made to walk the streets of KY giving his charlows away! Or, sell them to pay for the wasted ban width. Jk, I read the 1st post/page. I just wanted to act mad, :) and bump this awesome gaw.

Chief is in too??? Goodness, all the same guys showing such tremendous generosity.

I have one thing to say, these knives and works of art NEED to go to deserving participants.

Duncan, Thanks for allowing me to hitchhike onto your thread.

Tom's Choice barlows need to be experienced firsthand by all traditional knife fans. Solid built, consistent medium pull, halfstops without proud springs, 1095 patinas if you wish or can be cleaned off from time to time if you wish. Excellent quality for the price.

Here's a TC I would like to donate, a two blade long pull clip with ebony covers. Ask the winner be a first time TC owner. It's a special knife because it was gifted to me by Linus and because I have carried, used, sharpened the main blade (pen has factory toothy edge), cleaned (some of the etching is gone), and enjoyed this knife. Like the leather gloves it has my patina on it and am hoping the new owner will put it in their pocket and add more.

What a GAW extravaganza!

1. What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
I'll say non-silver Alox SAKs.

2. What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
I'm not a blade etching fan, but if it needs one, maybe a paddlewheel steamer (or Santa's reindeer and sleigh with "Way North").

3. Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
No first-hand experience with TC Barlows, but Primble's photos sure make them appear to be awesome knives. When I was a kid back in the 50s and 60s, I don't think I ever saw a Barlow. When I got married 30 years ago, my wife had an old beat up Barlow that I thought was one weird-looking jackknife; I relegated it to my "window repair bucket" for 20 years. But after I cleaned it up nicely back in January, when my long-dormant interest in pocket knives was rekindled, and after I did a little research on the pattern, I warmed up to the pattern a lot. And the photos of TC Barlows I've seen here increased my attraction to Barlows. Maybe since I've become an old classic man, I favor old classic knives! As far as design, I'm drawn to the classic saw cut bone with 2 blades, preferably one with straight edge and one with belly.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ?
Because I'm virtually guaranteed to win one in Primble's Super Duper Mind Blowing GAW, and I'd hate for it to be lonely.

By the way, Barry, what is that stitching called on that beautiful pocket sheath? I'm planning to try making a pocket slip out of a piece of old ball glove (thanks to Jennifer's (jone's) inspiration), but all I dare to try is buck stitching or maybe whip stitch.

This is an incredibly generous giveaway--even by the usual Traditionals' standards. Thank you to all who have contributed to this.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

I suspect it would have two characteristics: 1) A higher-quality knife with better F&F like the GEC-produced Charlow, and 2) limited run, so limited availability. Any of Charlie's Diamond Jacks (GEC) or Harness Jacks (S&M or GEC) fit this quality plus limited production threshold. I personally have the #2 Harness Jack in Goldenrod. I fell in love with it and have used it quite a bit so it has no collector value. But I have experienced the quality first hand and can see that unused HJs might be highly sought after.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

Something British to acknowledge the roots of the Barlow pattern. I think it would be fantastic if a Lambfoot main blade were produced. I've seen them on British Barlows so I know they are traditional. It would also give another blade shape for Charlie to produce. The Lambfoot is like the Sheepfoot, but with a sharper point. It's like the wharncliffe, but with a stronger point. Because it is tapered, it sits better in the handle than the Sheepfoot, which can protrude uncomfortably from the handle, especially when using a secondary blade. As for etching--something with a British or Sheffield theme, or maybe choose a character from a UK novel like Tom & Huck were for the Charlow and Huckleberry Boys' Knife. Oliver Twist? Or maybe some nod to the British wool industry? Harris Tweed or another wool reference? Rule Brittania with Imperial Inches on the scales? lol

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

Because I like and respect Charlie. Period. I didn't buy a Charlow until I met him in person at this years' Rendezvous. I'd seen the gorgeous pics, but it wasn't until I met Charlie, discussed his Charlow project, and saw for myself his enthusiasm for his knives and I fell in love with them. It was an emotional thing based on a friendship that pushed me into the Charlow camp. I only had budget for one, but was able to purchase a Tom's Choice with Clip main blade in sawcut Redbone from the first run of Clips. I also purchased a Rendezvous knife, it has the TC on the bolster but wasn't one of Charlie's knives so I don't count it. I've always sharpened and used my knives, and never had any display queens, but I haven't been able to bring myself to sharpen and use this one. I'm thinking that I'd like to get one with each major blade shape, display them, and pass them down to my son.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow:

I don't think I deserve to win over anyone else--this forum is filled with fine men and women. I can only reiterate what I wrote above, that for me it's all about a friendship with Charlie and displaying and preserving some of his work until I'm ready to pass them to my son.
