I tell you what everyone.

Traditionals is a fantastic place. So I am going to put up a giveaway thread for a TC Barlow - I haven't had a giveaway for a while- there's a grey. cloud hanging over right now - and so let's leave this thread on a nice note.
I will strike up a giveaway tomorrow.

This is THE best Place- this Barliw givraway is in thanks to Charlie for these beautiful knives because in this thread we all have one thing agreed upon and that these TC's are extremely good knives.

I will be home late tonight but will post the give away tomorrow.

Oooooh…Why hello there long pull spey…

That is just so wrong.... :D.

I would like to see this thread end as it has not been a productive one and I am sure there have been some hurt feelings.

I don't know, sometimes I think it's good to discuss these difficult topics. Obviously some people have been here harboring some negative feelings about this issue and maybe they just need to talk it out and be introduced to other ways of looking at the issue. I don't think it's better to ignore things that are bothering some members, best to do what we can to address the issue and see if we can help them move past those feelings in some way.

Personally, I have no issue with a free market at work. I've sold some Charlows, usually for what I paid for them or just slightly more to cover my expenses. But, I have no problem with people charging more if the market is there, especially when posted on the auction site and it's multiple buyers driving up the price.

Also, it's not hard to find good deals on them if you keep your eye out...quite a handful have been posted n the last few days on the exchange for fair prices. They go quick, but they've been available.

Duncan ~ You were honestly reading my mind. I will opt out of this give away considering I have a few already. I hope someone who doesn't own one wins.

I don't think you should...... but I'll enter if I fit the rules.

Good man!

My thoughts exactly Brett:thumbup: And thank you Duncan, even though it's your term/phrase I love saying it....so here goes my friend...you are a LEGEND;):D

Nice going Duncan and I will opt out and allow someone less fortunate to win.:)

I don't know, sometimes I think it's good to discuss these difficult topics.

I would agree as long as it remains respectful - but - any time fingers are pointed - things begin to spiral out of control - mainly because one side does not understand the other. :)

Hoarding and flipping?

Well, after a long long search I was able to purchase two spear point TC Barlow knives. The price was quite reasonable. And I intend to hoard them for a loooong time. :)

But flipping? I wouldn't sell either one, not even for a thousand dollars. :D

Barry, I couldn't agree with Duncan and Bob more:thumbup:

Your a class act and if it weren't for you I'm sure I would've missed out on a few fabulous knives---I come to you because of your professionalism and it's like dealing with a brother---a good Brother that is:D

Well said Paul and I can attest to Barry making sure that everyone has a chance to get a nice TC Barlow. Thanks again Barry for all you do.:)

Thanks guys- now to kba and Primble - both of you good men but we all know that We would ( if we could ) gather as many TC's as possible so you must enter- Paul you too must enter as I know your very good manners and you would politely step out- it will be a good chance for everyone to get in there- and hey if you do win the knife and you think someone else should receive it- then nominate that person.

To the OP - well Eric it's been a whirlwind of a thread- good and bad but boy the subject got beat around so much so I hope you and we all gathered as much as we can from all the discussions and a broader scope can now be held in the understanding of the origins and now the sales of these amazing knives.

I must admit- it's REALLY going to hurt to pull out one of my babies- but I have a lot of them- picked up another today actually - do now a theme- This needs thought- in fact I will ask Barry to nominate a theme if he doesn't mind.
But Eric- thank you for this thread- I am sure we can pull lots of positives from the negatives.

But flipping? I wouldn't sell either one, not even for a thousand dollars. :D

I understand. Mine just go into the black hole that is my knife accumulation never to see daylight again for years. But.... $1000... I might be able to be talked into that one. :D

So please forgive me if it looked like I was accusing you or blaming you. Serious collectors like you are what keeps the knife makers in business.

No hard feelings John, I just get a little defensive about my Charlows ;)

Sometimes it's tough to grasp the true meaning of what someone is saying when the communication is written. It is all to easy to take things out of context or read into them too much when you do not have facial expressions, nor the tone and cadence of their speech, in order to help distinguish these differences in a conversation. I find that to be an issue with online forums, social media, even with emails or text messages. Someone could be making a joke, which would seem obvious and harmless to them, and it could be interpreted to be the negative and hurtful to others, when that intent was never there.

Having said that, YOU ARE ALL TERRIBLE PEOPLE AND NEED TO SEND ME YOUR CHARLOWS IMMEDIATELY!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

I've not read every post here, but this thread does seem to be a bit of a train-wreck, and I'm glad it seems to have wound up satisfactorily, reflecting the quality of some of our members.

My Charlow from Duncan :)

My first Charlow, from Charlie himself :)

And from Stephen, with personalised sheath from Barry :)

Must rush as I have an appointment with ScruffUK, and have his birthday presents to hand over! :D

I will give this thread one more go and then leave it alone. I will try to show respect for everyone.

I just want to say that it is indeed a persons' own business as to what knives he buys, the knives he sells, where he sells, and who he chooses to sell them to. It is nobody else's business.

I think there are a very few here that SEEM to be NEW to the concept of collecting or buying limited production knives. If so - I say educate yourself - ask for help without complaining or pointing fingers - you might be surprised at the help you receive. ;)

If the knives are limited in production, they are harder to get and one has to work harder to find them and obtain them.

I have bought knives, one at a time, to make collections of knives which I was/am attracted to - my old Case Redbones - my old knife collection - my Case/Bose collaborations, etc., and lately the TC Barlows.

Some of them I found without much trouble, while others I spent a considerable amount of time finding. I missed out on some wonderful ones. I found some wonderful ones.

I won auctions - I lost auctions. This has been the same for many many years!

I have found the distribution of the TC Barlows to be as fair or more fair than any other limited production knifes I have sought to obtain.

Complaining of availability will DO NO GOOD. It may even hurt your chances. If you point fingers and call a collector a hoarder, other than joking, of course, you will probably kill any chance of obtaining a knife from that person. Show respect !

So my final advice to those who think the TC Barlows are unobtainable is: to read threads, especially Charlow threads, keep an ear to the ground, check the exchange often, ask some members about them, etc., show people you are interested - PAY ATTENTION. If you work hard toward something - it usually pays off.

I would like to see this thread end as it has not been a productive one and I am sure there have been some hurt feelings.

I have not intended to hurt anyone's feelings and this post is not intended that way either.

That is not typical of what this forum normally represents. :)

Primble, well said. It's interesting; I'm amazed to see that you joined us on the porch this year, you must have been prowling under a pseudonym for decades because never has a member belonged more - I consider you as one of the traditional forum elders.
