Tear drop pattern - any love?

Some really nice knives posted - in particular those thin&slim custom ones are true beauties. Keep them coming :)

That's an impressive array. Particularly like the 4th from left with the much sharpened master, fine shield and proportions, excellence:thumbup::thumbup:

Regards, Will

I really like that Ulster, too. The proportions and size are just right, and I really wish some modern makers (like GEC) would use that propeller shield.

However, if I were to choose just one as my favorite, it would be this Southington, which for some reason missed that group photo session:

This is my only teardrop so far. I received this as a tip from a gentleman that I helped when he was stuck in the mud. So far I do love it.

I have the Case Blue Lagoon Teardrop single blade.
It's a great little knife, sharpens up real well.
First thought is to think it makes a great gents knife, and it is,
but I've used this for rough work with tough cardboard etc.. and
it performs as well as any tough work-knife.

The image in one of Will's post concerning a Bose/Case TD has faded, maybe was it this one he kindly gave me.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but glad I found it now. Here is my favorite teardrop that I own.

Nice knives gents, the Case TB is fine knife, wish they have more of them bare head. The NYK and Tuna Valley are both great knives, one older and one new.
I used to collect this pattern but sold everything since, here are couple of photos

Dr-M I see the photos well so there is nothing I can do better. I'd like to know if others see the photos.
A great looking knife the stag is beautiful

Mike, I'm not seeing them either. I'm guessing that they are private, so you can see them because you're logged into your Google account and we can't because we aren't.

Dr-M, that is one heck of a knife. Courtney Daniels pulled one just like it out at a show I saw her at earlier this month. I don't usually go for stainless so I took a pass on it, but there's no denying that it's a beautiful piece. She's really got them churning out some top notch knives with that line.

OK Thanks Cory, I hope I took care of it

I always liked the looks of the teardrop frame, and it might be my next knife (I prefer the less slender ones though - The Case doesn't tickle my fantasy ). The two knives above, though, seems to drift quite a bit from my idea or definition of teardrop, since they both have a slight (but very evident) curve on the handle. I'm almost sure that the Winchester was labeled as dogleg jack, while I don't know about the NYK. Am I right? Am I wrong? Is it just another grey area in pattern definition?

It a interesting pattern. I will, have to get over to the House of Blades in Fort Worth and handle one.

A pre-1900 Robeson teardrop heavy jack, probably made by Sherwood/Bingham cutlery in Camillus, New York.

Tang marked ROBESON / CUTLERY Co. / WARRANTED.

You are correct, those two are doglegs, not teardrops. To be specific, candle-end doglegs.
