TechStudio K01 Profile Sharpening System

You could but then the screw would stick way out the top and you would only be able to sharpen at higher angles. To keep things lower it would be better to just buy some shorter screws.

Or just cut a couple of threads off.

Oh ya, that makes sense. Short screws sounds like a good fix.

I got the email tracking notification, Just like Paul said by the 15th I was starting to lose faith but it is on its way sure will make a nice Christmas present.
Sorry for doubting you Paul!!!

Just found and finished this thread and can't wait to get one of these. But I have to say, I haven't seen so much whining in one place in a long time. And I'll just leave it at that.

As for the table attachment just discussed, I don't think anything is supposed to actually get clamped to the table!? Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was like the table on an edge pro (or any other table that you set things on). Those slides are just to adjust and move to the spine of the knife so you have a hard stop that you can repeatedly locate the knife against and have the knife edge just hanging over the end of the table. If you clamped your knife to it then it wouldn't be a table but a clamp...

Maybe the wrong screws were accidentally put in or they are being put in the wrong place? I think they are just meant to loosen so they can move and most of the time they are screwed down tight. Again, maybe I'm wrong and this table is different from the rest?

No, I asked Paul about that. He said it is to clamp blades/items over 7mm in thickness. I was not happy at all because the design that I received is different from the one pictured on his website. I asked about the screw length and he said do not cut them. The picture on his website for the K02 has 2 shorter but higher clamps that appear to be able to tighten to the table itself.

Are you sure he didn't mean that it's to be able to sharpen blades over 7mm in thickness that you can't clamp in the normal clamps? And therefore need to rest on a table to be able to sharpen them on the system?

I'm not trying to be argumentative but sometimes little details are lost when a language isn't someone's native tongue. Heck, even when it is it can be hard to describe technical details. Just trying to help and again, not trying to argue or insist that I'm right.

The description of the table in the configurator says "Designed for manual positioning without using clamps".
The photo of the table posted in this thread is a shocking piece of work - noticibly different in quality from the rest of the kit. No whining intended.

Me to Paul:
"I have a few questions about the removable table attachment. Mine came with a rough surface that had a gouge out of the middle. The included screws for the T slots are too long and hit the bottom of the slot long before they are tight. Can I just cut these down or is there a reason they are so long?

Here is a picture with the screws tight. (inserted picture that is in this thread where the clamp is held way above the table) "

Paul to me:
"You should not cut the screws. Removable table is for blades >7mm thick, so that is why the screws are long. "

Me to Paul:
"Ah, I figured it would have been more like the table for the K01 and the Edge Pro system where you can tighten the clamps and put the knife against them."

And no reply back.

To me this means that they are meant to clamp blades thicker than 7mm, as Paul has stated somewhere in this thread. The previous design pictured below would have been perfect to use edge pro style sharpening. This new one has very thin clamps/stops that will not work well.

Overall I am unhappy with the purchase of the table. Thankfully it uses T slots so I can find somebody to make me accessories so that I can use it how I want to.

Yup, there are several sizable dings on the edges that I did not show, the surface is very rough and has some gouges out of it. Not what I would expect for almost $50. It almost looks like somebody used it as a beater block to hammer on things.

Initially the profile are designed to be a universal tool sharpening device. The system are quite popular in Russia and, indeed, there is a lot of people who enjoys the free hand sharpening process. For that people The Profile K01 has special attachment called "Removable Table".

As the Profile is heavy and sturdy removable table allows to sharpen not just knives but even axes.

^This is the "Blade Table" I thought they were making... what happened to it?

Hmmmmm... not in a good way it appears... :(

The K02 table could be great with more versatility than the K01 table but the clamping system on the latest update was a big fail. IMO the clamps should be able to lock down to the table. This would allow you to set them at separate points which would allow you to customize it for oddly shaped items etc. This is an "issue" with the edge pro as on some blades you end up with only a small corner actually touching the stop and it rocks back and forth really easily.

Hmmm, that is strange. Yours looks similar to the raw aluminum one you just posted except the screws are too long. Plus the addition of the bolt in the back that I can't tell what it's for. It looks like he had an idea for how the table works so it's hard to imagine he would suddenly change it to mount blades to it where it would in fact be a type of clamp and not a table any longer. Plus a clamp like that wouldn't allow the jaw to adjust somewhat to an irregular shaped blade or allow you to rotate the table/clamp to work the other side like his design focuses on.

I'm thinking there has to be a miscommunication or an oversight on his part when looking at your picture. Clamping a blade to the table just doesn't make sense. I bet he will eventually make it right but it sounds like he probably just finished up another round of orders and is likely swamped right now.

Unfortunately with something like this you just have to have some patience. Or at least you'll have lower blood pressure if you do. Being around the holidays probably doesn't make things easier.

True.

Has everyone gotten their shipping notice? I was told I would get mine on December 15th and I still have not heard anything...
